The Meadows Montessori School

Description

The Meadows Montessori School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 16 (Gender - 3 to 16 )

At a time when our UK education system appears to be concerned only about academic results - they pride ourselves on the attention to your child's well-being and happiness.  Using the Montessori ethos, we follow each child. They plan for their core subjects individually, and they move along the curriculum at their pace. Right from the beginning in Dragonflies they encourage the children to be independent, not only with life skills, but also with their own learning and journey through the curriculum, so that by the time they leave high school, they are ready to take the next step in their future.Your child is not just a 'pupil' but an important and valued member of our school's community.  They are proud of the children's academic achievements, but know that these only happen when they look after the 'whole child's' needs.

Curriculum Studies in High School
The high school curriculum is designed to be faithful to Montessori’s ideas about learning during the teenage years while also preparing our students for their GCSE examinations. As such English, Maths, Science and Languages are taught as discrete lessons, while other subjects are taught thematically using Montessori’s Great Lesson structure. In addition, students have dedicated time each half term to be creative, develop what Montessori described as the ‘interior personality’, and engage with nature through our Erdkinder projects. The students have much more freedom at GCSE than in other high schools, and as much as is possible within our infrastructure, we aim to offer qualifications based on each student’s interests and ability. As in all ideal Montessori classrooms, they provide the students with the time and space to learn at the rate and in the order that is appropriate to them, in an environment that is organised specifically to suit that purpose.

Curriculum Subjects in Primary
Maths is taught through using Montessori materials and working at your child's pace. The focus is on solid foundations of key topics to enable broader maths to be explored. The cultural curriculum covers many different topics, discovered and explored through The Great Lessons. All based on History, Geography and Science, the afternoons give the chance for children to investigate and using their enquiring minds to explore many different themes.Music and Art form part of the weekly curriculum. Often these subjects are enjoyed on a Friday giving us extended time to enjoy being creative. The annual Musical is a time of great joy where every child can participate at a level they feel happy - back stage or centre stage!

Things to note

Fridays
The Fridays are a whole different day at The Meadows.  With the core curriculum running from Monday - Thursday, Fridays give us a day to work on lots of different and very valuable skills. Dressing down for the day means that old clothes may get muddy and dirty.  Time spent chatting, discussing, working together and being a community.  Each half term they have a different theme which sometimes keeps them outside all day, sometimes has us in small mixed aged groups, and may take them off site to the local woodlands and park.
