The facilities are outstanding and include the hockey, netball and tennis centre at Rushmere, extensive playing fields for rugby, cricket and athletics at Nottcutts and 1st XI Cricket Square at main school which has hosted first class games and is home to two annual Suffolk 1st team fixtures. They also possess two sports halls, one on site and one at Rushmere, two indoor cricket lanes, an indoor swimming pool and an athletic development suite with the latest Push software.

Sport plays an integral part in the life of every Ipswich School Pupil. The School has a proud tradition of excellence in the focus sports as well as international representation in other fields.
The Drama department offer a wealth of opportunities to all age groups to contribute to the vibrant co-curricular life of Ipswich School.
Visits out of school happen very regularly as part of school life at Ipswich Prep. These are predominantly day visits and children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will also experience residential outdoor activities, including Bushcraft and outward bound activities.
Children in Years 3 – 6 are offered a variety of stimulating activities, which are incorporated into a timetabled slot each week. In addition, children from Reception upwards can participate in a wide range of clubs such as construction, gardening, multi-sports, choir and drama clubs, plus different sports clubs are held after school, including ballet, yoga, fencing, skiing and sailing. These clubs generally vary from term to term, although some clubs run throughout the year.
Tuition is offered in a wide variety of instruments, and in singing, as well as Speech and Drama, at an additional cost.

Senior School:
Age 11: Admission is by means of the entrance exam which is held at the end of November prior to entry in the following September. The exam consists of a Reasoning test and papers in Mathematics and English.
Age 13: Places are now open for Year 9 entry in September 2023. Assessments will be held in February 2023 for entry the following September.Prospective pupils may apply for scholarships in music, sport and art; all-rounder and academic scholarships are also available. Year 9 applicants may also choose to sit Common Entrance exams, run by the pupil’s current school, in early June.
Age 16: Entry to Sixth Form is dependent on GCSE grades, an interview with the Headmaster and a school reference. Experience shows that success at A level follows for those who have achieved at least grade 7 at GCSE in the subjects they wish to study at A level, or in related subjects, with at least six grade 6s overall in their GCSEs.
Sixth Form: Entry to Sixth Form is dependent on GCSE grades, an interview with the headmaster and a school report. The school year begins in early September and it is highly desirable that new pupils should join us then.

Scholarships
These are available for external candidates at 11, 13 and 16 years of age. All academic scholarship are known as Queen’s Scholarships in honour of Queen Elizabeth I. These are worth up to half fees and are awarded on the basis of examinations and interviews at 11 and 13 years. Music and Art Scholarships at 11 and 13 years are awarded on the basis of excellence in these areas as demonstrated by audition or portfolio. Sports Scholarships at 11 and 13 years of age are awarded to pupils who will make a significant contribution to the quality of sport at the school and All-rounder Scholarships are available at 13 years of age.
Sixth Form scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, for exceptional musical talent and for an all-rounder who will do well academically and contribute outstandingly in other areas of school life such as sport or drama. A Sports Scholarship is also available at 16 years of age. They also offer Arkwright Scholarships, which focus on Design Technology: further details are available from the Admissions Office.
