Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3, Students explore a broad range of subjects, building towards more specialised study when students choose their GCSE options subjects.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, we offer a traditional grammar school curriculum which is tailored to the aptitudes and aspirations of our students and their families. All students at Crossley Heath are strong in the fields of maths and sciences and so everyone studies Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Study of a modern foreign language and a humanity is also required by all students as part of our academic programme of study. We believe that Religious Studies is, along with History and Geography, a valuable academic ‘humanity’ and so students are required to choose at least one humanity from these three subjects.
Key stage 5
At Key Stage 5, students follow an exclusively A-level programme of study. Our aim is for our subject offer to meet the needs and aspirations of our students. Our enrichment programme provides extensive opportunities for personal exploration and development and to contribute to the wider community.
Sixth Form
The Crossley Heath School has been allocated funds of just over £8000 from the EFSA to fund the following support for students: small group tuition in Level 3 academic subjects (groups of 5 or below) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are predicted below their target grade; small group mentoring (groups of 5 or below) working on organisation, study skills, motivation and developing students’ ability to become a more independent learner. This will be aimed at underachieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Special and Additional Educational Needs
At Crossley Heath School we are committed to supporting all students, including those with additional needs, to achieve their potential and to realise their dreams and aspirations. The foundations of this philosophy are three fold:
To support and facilitate the best academic and social outcomes for our students so that they are independently prepared for the next steps on leaving the school.
To ensure that students and parents are actively involved in decision making about the support and provision they receive.
To provide high quality and inclusive teaching, developing expertise as required in order to meet the needs of individuals.
