Beacon Lights Schools are independent Islamic primary and secondary schools serving Park Ward in the town of Halifax, UK. Delivering a well-designed curriculum, which they developed using the national curriculum in England. The founding members are individuals from various social and ethnic backgrounds, primarily based in the borough of Calderdale. Primary
At Beacon Lights, our curriculum focuses on traditional learning with emphasis on intellectual study. We are determined that our pupils will compete on equal terms with pupils coming from the most privileged backgrounds, in an ever-competitive global community. The Primary curriculum sets high expectations for all pupils in both numeracy and literacy. It guides pupils in their journey through both key stage 1 & 2, culminating in preparation for the end of year 6 SATs. The curriculum instils the confidence in pupils to succeed in all areas of schooling.Using educational expertise and consultation, they have designed a bespoke primary curriculum for both core and foundation subjects. The primary curriculum is sequenced to equip the children to compete on equal terms with pupils from the most privileged backgrounds, in an ever- competitive global community.
Secondary
Thecondary offering provides a rich and diverse subject offering in line with the vision and ethos. When pupils enter Beacon Lights Secondary school, they are set clear, realistic goals for each subject which challenges pupils to reach their true potential.In secondary school, they continue to set high expectations in outcomes. The broad and balanced curriculum lays a strong foundation at keys stage 3 to prepare pupils for national GCSE qualifications when they reach key stage 4. The secondary curriculum is carefully sequenced and goes beyond national curriculum coverage. At Beacon Lights, we believe in a pupil-centred approach in which teachers adapt their delivery to suit the needs of pupils, whilst providing challenge and ensuring new learning and progress is sustained.
Islamic Education
At Beacon Lights, authentic religious knowledge is the cornerstone of all that we do as it underpins our ethos and curriculum design. Islaam places a huge emphasis on religious study. For Muslims, the acquisition of knowledge is of paramount importance. This knowledge pertains to an essential amount of religious knowledge, which every Muslim needs in order to conduct themselves in accordance with what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came with. The Islamic studies programme is a bespoke, meticulously designed curriculum which teaches the young people true Islamic belief, purification & prayers and Islamic manners. Through this, they connect the children back to the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ and his honourable companions.
Arabic Programme
At Beacon Lights, they deliver a comprehensive Arabic language programme where pupils are taught how to read, write and speak Arabic from the age of 5. The Arabic language is amongst the early languages which Muslims believe were revealed to Prophet ‘Aadam ﷺ. Currently, it is considered one of the top 6 most spoken languages, with over 315 million native speakers worldwide. It has had a major influence on the advancement of western civilisations over the centuries.
Selection Criteria: Selective
All students must sit an entrance examination. A registration fee of £50.00 will be payable if your child is invited to sit an entrance test. Payment must be made on the day of the test. A calculator will not be required, and the test will consist of a computer-based ability test and a reading-age and spelling-age written test. The tests will be spread over the course of a morning and children will be given a break.
