They are a highly successful non-selective independent school in Yorkshire, providing a future-facing curriculum for the next generation of leaders. The academic results are exceptional, with a focus on pupil wellbeing and character development at the heart of all we do. Set in beautiful grounds, they provide children from ages 3-16 a caring, supportive environment in which to learn. Children are inspired from the very beginning of their educational journey in Kindergarten and Reception, and this continues right through the Pre-Preparatory, Preparatory and Senior School. Huddersfield Grammar School offers academic stretch and an enviable extra-curricular programme. They are renowned for the rich vein of kindness and inclusivity. They encourage the pupils to work hard, aspire to high academic standards and we delight in watching them become fully-rounded members of the school and community.
Kindergarten
A broad curriculum that gives children confidence.
Huddersfield Grammar School has a personalised approach to teaching and learning, ensuring our children are challenged every day to progress and meet their unique potential. At Nursery age, the fantastic Kindergarten teachers and support staff promote play-based learning, making education fun and engaging for your children. As they progress through to Reception, more structured timetables are introduced, allowing children to start to build a rounded view of what their education will be like moving forwards into Pre-Preparatory.
Reception
Encouraging exploration and development. Children in the Reception year benefit from an enhanced education with a focus on Literacy and Mathematics, plus plenty of expressive Arts and Design projects. We provide a nurturing learning environment to enable our pupils to be prepared for a very successful schooling experience.
Pre-Preparatory
The teachers deliver an enhanced version of the National Curriculum. Class sizes of no more than 20 ensure that we can monitor the progress of each child in the class. Reading, Writing and Mathematics have a high priority in the Pre-Preparatory, ensuring a sound foundation in these essential core subjects. Information Technology is integrated into the curriculum from the beginning and all children learn the skills needed to use computers effectively. Great emphasis is also placed on the social development of each individual. At the beginning of each term, Pre-Preparatory parents are provided with a detailed Curriculum Map that outlines the Programme of Study.
Preparatory
Although they have adopted the National Curriculum, they are not totally bound by it, so have the freedom to introduce a wide range of subjects. In Preparatory School, each pupil is provided with their own personal laptop device for use in school and at home. Pupils use a number of learning applications to support and enhance their education, such as Century Tech, Times Tables Rock Stars Learning by Questions and Languagenut. A More Able and Talented provision within the school includes setting in Maths, differentiated lessons and extension extra-curricular activities to further develop an enquiring mind.
Extra-Curricular Activities
At Huddersfield Grammar school they know that undertaking extra-curricular activities has far-ranging benefits for a child’s development. The vast extra-curricular programme provides opportunities for pupils to participate in wider school life and enhance their timetabled curriculum. The school offers a range of clubs and activities including sports, science, technology, creative, musical and artistic opportunities.
