St Philomena's School is Independent Primary school in Essex for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
St Philomena's School was first established in 1893, when the Daughters of the Cross purchased Carshalton House. This was advertised in The Times of 1859 as having "extensive and very complete arrangements for conducting an important scholastic establishment situated in finely timbered park grounds".The school is situated in twenty-five acres of beautiful parkland and in buildings which include a refurbished Queen Anne Mansion. Since its foundation, the school has given its pupils every opportunity to develop spiritually, intellectually and socially in the context of a Catholic community which is forward looking while maintaining all that is best of traditional values.
Key Stage 3 - 5 Curriculum Summary
(The numbers in brackets indicate the number of periods per 2-week cycle allocated to that subject) Students receive an additional period of Reading and PE per fortnight in Year 7. In Year 8 students receive an additional period of Art and Drama and in Year 9 this is Music and Science. This model allows students' increased access to the Arts in addition to a focus on students' physical and mental well being with more time for PE. Protected time for reading will also address the loss of learning as a result of lockdown and there are also other benefits with respect to mental health e.g. more time for performance and group work (Music and Drama). The increased time for Science will allow students more time to engage in practical work.
Sixth Form
St Philomena’s Sixth Form welcomes students who are committed to succeed. Applications are welcome from students who are not Catholic but wish to join our vibrant learning community. Our students are encouraged to be ambitious and to have high aspirations. We actively encourage them to take a lead role in their education and develop their learning whilst maturing into confident, resilient, resourceful young women able to face any challenge. The school motto is from Psalm 127, ‘Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain who build it’. Christ is at the heart of all we do; the rich liturgical life of the school is celebrated in a variety of ways
AAL (Anytime Anywhere Learning Scheme)
In this option, you would privately purchase a Chromebook device from, for example, Currys, Argos etc. The school requires a payment (currently £43) which pays for the licenses and software we install on devices. This payment is included in the two options above and is a one-off payment made per device. The device must be a Chromebook and we will not allow other devices (Windows laptops, iPads etc.) on our network. The school does not provide insurance or warranty for any privately purchased device and we recommend you arrange for this yourself.
