St Cuthbert's Catholic High School is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 16 (Gender - Mixed)
When looking for a school for their child, every parent or carer seeks academic excellence, a wide range of vibrant co-curricular activities and a place where their son can truly belong. St Cuthbert’s is such a place. For over one hundred years, St Cuthbert’s has been nurturing fine young men, preparing them to take their rightful place in the Church and in the world. They have provided the pupils and students with a challenging yet supportive environment within which to discover and develop their own God-given gifts. One of the distinguishing characteristics is the fact that they are a boys’ school. They know from research that boys learn differently than girls, and we strongly believe that we are ideally situated to meet our pupils’ learning needs through a balance of tradition and innovation, reflecting best practices in boys’ learning.
CURRICULUM
St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School is first and foremost a Catholic School and therefore offers the boys who attend a holistic Catholic education or formation. The Second Vatican Council heralded a review and reform of the Catholic Church in the 1960s. It as concerned both with ressourcement “return to the authoritative sources” of Christian faith, for the purpose of rediscovering their truth and meaning in order to meet the critical challenges of the time. If ressourcement is about revitalization, renewal, then the oft mentioned, but often misunderstood concept, aggiornamento is essentially a question of a new and wider contextualisation, with the aim of finding new ways to rethink and reformulate the fundamental affirmations of the Christian faith in order to more effectively communicate the Gospel. Following the Second Vatican Council the Church published a document setting out what Catholic schools were about
PASTORAL CARE OVERVIEW
Excellent pastoral care for every individual boy is at the heart of St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School. The distinctive Catholic tradition and concern for the well-being of everyone is a lived reality. One of the school’s key characteristics and therefore its values, is that of diversity. At St Cuthbert’s we work to create and sustain a vibrant, inclusive community reflecting the expansive demographics and rich mixture of Newcastle’s population. Part of this is to ensure that all our pupils learn to live in communion with one another and can find sanctuary within the school to develop as a person, fully conscious of their responsibilities to themselves, to others, and to God.
