St Bede's Catholic College is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Mixed)
They are committed to the principles of Catholic education and academic excellence, as envisioned by the namesake, St Bede. It is the responsibility of the college to prepare children to be good citizens and the servant leaders of the future. Through the culture that focuses on gospel values such as service, compassion and forgiveness, Catholic and non-Catholic students alike leave St Bede’s ready to be beacons of light to future generations. Each member of the school community is recognised as being created in God’s own image and so equally valuable. Non-Catholics feel equally welcome and their spiritual journey as important. The learning of knowledge built through human history is an intellectual human right. Knowledge provides liberty, freedom and power. Therefore, the curriculum at St Bede’s is designed to give access to a wide range of subjects, with expert teachers guiding students through the traditions. Through this curriculum, students have the chance to develop character traits such as fortitude and perseverance, as well as skills including reasoning and critical thinking. As students have different areas of aptitude and interest, St Bede’s caters for all, as we know that often it is only through exposure to these opportunities that they find their God-given gifts.
Curriculum
The curriculum at St Bede’s is designed to nurture every child towards reaching their full potential, giving them the knowledge, skills and confidence to embrace the world in which they live. The aim is to deliver excellence in learning and teaching and an expectation that all learners to be actively engaged in their own learning. The curriculum focuses on the child as learner, and allows breadth and depth of learning, offering challenge and enjoyment. Progression through Working Towards Grades is closely monitored and tracked to ensure the opportunity of attainment at the highest level. The curriculum embraces the Core subjects of English, Maths and Science, but also hugely values the Foundation subjects in developing well rounded young people. The college aims for an equitable curriculum which allows all to access learning from their current position and aspires to move them forward. Student with lower prior attainment and SEND students are monitored closely to ensure provision is appropriate.
SEND
The SEN Faculty is widely respected in the college, and the Governing Body, Principal, SENDCo and all members of staff have important responsibilities and roles to play to ensure Inclusivity within our Catholic Community. The SENDCo and our team of LSA’s have brilliant relationships with staff, students and parents, as well as other stakeholders. The College seeks to raise aspirations and attainment, remove barriers to learning and increase physical and curricular access for all. Every child and young person is valued, respected and an equal member of the learning community. They are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all students whatever their needs or abilities. They value the contribution that every child and young person can make and welcome diversity arising from culture, religion, intellect or disability. All teachers at the College are responsible for students with SEND in their classrooms, and so we ensure CPD on special educational needs and disabilities is thorough and regular for all staff.
