Elmlea Junior School

The Dell, Westbury on Trym, Bristol BS9 3UF, United Kingdom
7-11 Years

Description

The Dell, Bristol BS9 3UF, United Kingdom is an Independent Primary school for kids aged 7 to 11 (Gender - mix). Most of the children in our Junior School have joined the Elmlea school family in the Infant school and it is a natural progression for them to join the Junior school in Year 3. The Junior School builds on the outstanding provision our children have already experienced in the Infant School prior to joining them. Transition between the schools is well planned and the children in Year 3 arrive confident and ready for all they have to offer in the Junior School. The Junior school consists of year groups from Year 3 to Year 6, with 3 classes in each year. Throughout their journey with them, the dedicated staff team offer curriculum opportunities that inspire, enthuse and extend children’s learning.

Curriculum: At Elmlea, they offer pupils a rich and diverse curriculum, which celebrates learning through a range of creative topics. We believe that children learn best when they are confident to ‘have a go’; to take risks and to understand that they can learn from mistakes. We want children to reflect on how best they learn and to continue to challenge themselves to ‘become better learners’. We also believe that children learn best when they are engaged and excited about what they are learning.

Features

Things to note

Music: Music is at the heart of school life with all children in Years 3 – 6 receiving a music lesson each week Music is held in high esteem at Elmlea Schools’ Trust and, as such, our wide music curriculum is complemented by a programme of peripatetic (private) instrumental lessons and also get involved in the orchestra. Many children then go on to achieve great success in Associated Board examinations as they develop their musical skill and join local orchestras.

Remote Learning: At Elmlea Schools’ Trust we believe that remote learning should reflect the high standards of education and the rich curriculum experience that all pupils receive throughout the Trust. They will continue to teach all or most of the normal planned curriculum whenever possible and will monitor pupil engagement and motivation throughout any lockdown period. Cohesion within the whole school community will be encouraged through contact with parents, whole school assemblies, newsletters and daily contact between child and teachers.
