Nursery
The little children and babies, aged between 2 months and 2 ½ years, are nurtured through their learning journey by caring, well qualified staff. They learn through play with a variety of activities, both inside and outside, to help them reach their developmental goals. They talk, eat, play and sleep in the security of their rooms, which are bright and inviting.
Pre-Preparatory
In KS1 the curriculum is broadly akin to the National Curriculum, but extended to cover a greater breadth and depth of learning. During these years we continue to build on the foundations laid in Early Years Foundation Stage. Staff deliver a broad curriculum and each child is educated to his or her full potential, with the Arts and PE having their vital places. Children are taught by specialists in Music and PE and have access to both the Music studio and large sports hall.
Preparatory
The Preparatory Curriculum is central to the life and work of our school. It encompasses formal learning, intellectual skills, as well as the ‘hidden’ curriculum… Formal learning is the content of the curriculum in terms of knowledge to be acquired. This will vary according to the abilities of the pupil. Intellectual skills include listening, observing, reflecting, making deductions, formulating and solving problems and testing hypotheses. All important is the presentation of the content being matched to the individual needs of the pupils. This statement is uppermost in the teacher’s mind when considering teaching strategies, curriculum match and timing plus classroom organisation.\
Outdoor Play Areas
The outdoor play areas have been adapted for all age groups and abilities; their careful design provides a suitable environment for children to engage and interact through imaginative play.
Sports Facilities
At Milton Keynes Preparatory School we have a range of facilities that enable us to introduce our children to a wide variety of games and to enable them to excel in their chosen sports as they develop their knowledge and ability. The Astroturf pitch provides an ideal surface for outdoor sports such as football, hockey and netball and is also home to our new outdoor cricket nets.
