At Baytul Ilm, our aim is to nurture and develop our students today to enable them to progress and grow academically and spiritually into the leaders of tomorrow. They never compromise on safeguarding and provide a secure, safe and enjoyable environment which is conducive to learning for our young students. Guided by our values, we have a culture of respecting and caring for ourselves and expectation to treat others in the same manner which is why our students truly feel like they are at the heart of our school community. We also view parents and our wider school community as integral to our success, as we know that learning isn’t just restricted to the classroom, so are always looking for opportunities to engage and work together.
Academic Curriculum
The aim of English as a subject is to develop and enhance the skills of reading; comprehension, writing, speaking and listening. English encompasses English Language and Literature. The importance of literacy within the school curriculum holds its foundations within the subject of English, which is then utilised in all other subjects.
They believe that mathematics is a vital tool in everyday living and is evident all around us. It is equally significant in decision making as well as in various employment sectors including finance and accounting.
With well-designed modern Science facilities, pupils are able to extend their learning. In Key Stage 3, pupils follow Exploring Science where they cover various units. In all three years, Science disciplines such as inheritance, chemical reactions and electricity are studied.
The school follows the National Curriculum for History and Religious Studies. At KS3 RS pupils explore other religions. Visiting other religious places is part of the scheme of work. At KS4 level, it is provided through a GCSE specification focusing on Islam.
At KS4 an option between ART and BUSINESS will be available depending upon the subject that is best for the pupil to pursue.
It is the intention to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in a discriminating and effective way.
Pupils at KS3 level are taught Art & Nasheeds (Music). Art and Design (if there is a demand) is also taught in year 10 and 11. It is every child’s fundamental right to be given the opportunity to explore their natural creativity.
Hifdh Curriculum
Memorising the Qur’an is also generally easier at a younger age and that is why at Baytul Ilm, we offer a comprehensive hifdh programme based on trusted classical methodologies whilst catering for individual student’s needs by tailoring our approach accordingly. The course commences with ensuring the student has first met the required ‘tajweed’ standard, through to completion of the memorisation of the complete Qur’an.
Islamic Curriculum
This course is based on the classical curriculum and is delivered by fully qualified teachers. It is tailored to the individual needs of our students and aims to provide religious teachings within the appropriate contemporary contexts. There is an emphasis on core fundamentals relating to aqeedah, fiqh and general topics with a focus on building a strong foundation in the disciplines and gaining an appreciation of the underlying principles in the respective science.
