London Christian School is Independent Primary school in Southwark for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
They are an independent primary school that exists to provide an excellent Christian education for children in London. London Christian School was established in September 2007 and started with just four pupils. Since then the school has flourished to its current size of 120 pupils across eight classes, aged from 3 to 11 years old. At LCS they believe that pupils flourish in a secure, caring and fun environment, with clear expectations and firm boundaries. The class sizes are kept small to allow us to strive for academic excellence while treating pupils as individuals. We encourage pupils to develop their own talents and personality and we value diversity in our school community.
Curriculum
The curriculum combines a rigorous academic focus with an engaging, creative approach. We adapt units of work to pupils’ interests and abilities, ensuring that they make great progress. One key way we combine academic rigour with engagement and creativity is through the embedding of technology across the curriculum. It is a carefully crafted curriculum built around a traditional Biblical Christian understanding of the worldLiteracy and Mathematics form the foundation of our education at LCS. These are taught every day from Y1- Y6 and skills are developed through formal and informal assessment, interventions, delivering lessons with captivating themes and activities, and integrating subjects such as Science, Geography and History. They inform and prepare our children for a lifetime of digital learning by teaching key principles of computing, digital literacy and online safety. We embed technology into our curriculum using portable Chromebooks, iPads and floor robots. The older children share what they make and learn via a safe social learning platform. We have also introduced LEGO® We-DO to make programs and build working models that the children can remotely control using Bluetooth. The range of software we use breaks down the classroom walls and enables complimentary learning at home.
Extra-curricular
At LCS, they strive to instil a love of learning that goes beyond timetabled classes. Pupils are encouraged to participate in a number of groups provided free of charge during school hours, as well as in specialist activity clubs which are run after school during term times.In-School Groups focus on developing a particular skill over an academic year, to complement and enhance other learning. Groups provide tailored instruction and supervision for any pupil that would like to sign up. Currently, we have groups for choir (Y4-6), middle distance running, football, recorder, verse speaking (Y3-6) and for chess (Y1-6).After School Clubs run after school every day until 5.30pm (term time only) and consist of specialised Activity Clubs and Every Day Club ‘wraparound’ care. They exist to provide an opportunity for extended learning and skill development as well as for dedicated supervision and care for parents who require a later pick-up.
Selection Criteria: Selective
The best way to find out more about our school is to come and visit us for a private tour to see our excellent curriculum in action and meet the Head Teacher. Tours are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9.30-10.30am, by appointment. If the enrolment list for the relevant year group is already closed, a tour will not be offered. The school accepts just over double the number of enrolment forms as there are places in a class and then the enrolment list for that year group is closed. Given the size of the classes, parents are encouraged to enrol their child at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.
