Pre Prep
The moment a child joins the Pre-Prep family they embark upon an adventure in which they will lay the foundations for all future learning. The formative years of a child’s development should never be underestimated and we relish the challenge of ensuring learning experiences are so irresistible that the children cannot help but jump right in and devour them. This initially starts with the favourable small class sizes which enable teachers to get to know their children incredibly well. They know what inspires and ignites interest in each child and as a result can cater their experiences to their individual needs and styles. This is further enhanced by the favourable staffing ratios; each year group is supported by a full time teaching assistant which results in an average 1:8 adult – pupil ratio. With so many experienced eyes charting children’s progress and development there is little chance of anything but success.
Prep
Day and boarding pupils are wholly integrated through the traditional house systems, and there are several opportunities for pupils who do not normally board to join their peers during special year group boarding nights. There is also a wide variety of after school and weekend activities on offer to all children. Many chose to socialise with friends beyond the classroom, while learning something new or developing an interest. There is something for everyone, whether they are creative or musical, fascinated by wildlife or mad about maths.Pastoral care is a significant part of life at King’s Hall. They are a school with a strong boarding ethos and recognise that our pupils thrive in the atmosphere of care and support that they provide. The pupils succeed because they feel happy and at ease in their surroundings, and therefore they achieve more.
Senior School
King’s is a vibrant and busy community made up of boys and girls from the South West of England, further afield in the UK and from overseas. This mix works extremely well. Most of the pupils board, but a significant number are day pupils and all are thoroughly integrated into the life of the school. Day pupils belong to boarding houses and are encouraged to spend the odd night at school.Through their houses, all pupils have a home away from home; a place to which they can retreat during the day and where they can store their books and kit. The pupils are astonishingly busy and successful, but they also have time to relax and recharge because of the boarding structures of the days and weeks. Afterall, downtime spent with friends is an important part of a teenager’s life.
Arts at King's
Alongside sport in the huge number of opportunities available to pupils outside the classroom, King's College has a thriving artistic and cultural life. The corridors of the school are regular exhibition spaces for our pupils' artwork, and end of year exhibitions feature work of the very highest standard. Our design and technology department has won the Good Schools Guide A Level Award for Design and Technology four times, and the pupils regularly win prestigious Arkwright scholarships. The drama department puts on numerous productions throughout the year, from the experimental and innovative to the huge blockbuster on an epic scale.
Sport
King's athletics aims to encourage the development of participating athletes, both technically and socially. Athletes of all abilities are actively encouraged to opt in and large numbers of our pupils take part in this element of the summer sports programme. Both girls and boys are encouraged to participate in school teams and events, and specialist coaching is available in every discipline, including pole vault and hammer
Forest School
Forest School sees the children exploring, investigating, taking risks, developing key skills in all curriculum areas, applying what they know to new situations and problem-solving, all in an environment where they feel they are simply having fun! However, as observers and facilitators, they see some of the most amazing learning, creativity and critical thinking taking place. It is here that the children are learning how to be curious, make their own decisions and persevere when things don’t always go to plan – skills they will need throughout their lives. They believe that effective learning is not a passive state, but requires a commitment of real energy, focus and a will to reach the goal set, no matter what obstacles appear along the way.
