Facilities

NURSERY (AGED 0-4)
The Nursery’s safe, nurturing and stimulating environment provides the perfect setting for children to begin the first stages of their learning journey. The Early Learning Goals were devised by the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority and recommended by the Department for Education and Employment, and are more recently known as the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).Through organised play and fun and teacher-led activities, your child will cover the seven areas that constitute the Early Learning Goals.

PRE-PREP (AGED 4-7)
Through a combination of collaborative work, structured play and practical activities, our balanced curriculum covers all aspects of your child’s development. From social, emotional and physical, to intellectual development, the Pre-Prep years at Taunton School help to form keen inquisitive learners that continue to flourish throughout their educational journey.Working through the Foundation Stage Curriculum and progressing towards KS1 of the National Curriculum, Reception covers the following learning areas in line with the Early Learning Goals.

PREP (AGED 7-13)
The teachers enjoy catering for all pupils, ranging from academic high flyers, to those who benefit from a steadier pace. All of the pupils embrace the very high expectations which they maintain in terms of good manners, respect and behaviour in the classroom. The teaching is carefully planned to ensure that our pupils are positively engaged in their own learning, that they remain curious and that they enjoy their lessons. The progress of each child is monitored carefully, using nationally benchmarked tests as well as the own internal assessment systems. Concerns are quickly identified and discussed with parents. Evidence from tests show that all of the year groups are exceeding national age-related expectations, in terms of both attainment levels and progress.

SENIOR & SIXTH FORM (AGED 13-18)
The Educational Progress Department provides specialist education for pupils in Year 9, right through until Sixth Form, in line with the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2001).Led by Department Head, Kate Walters, pupils requiring short or long term support during their Taunton School education can benefit from the Educational Progress Department at any point during the school year.A supportive, expert team of teachers is available to identify and provide the relevant assistance to meet pupils’ individual educational needs and ensure their full potential is met across the curriculum.

Things to note

ADVENTURES & TRIPS
Adventures and trips play a big part in the learning process at Taunton School. That’s because we believe experiencing the outside world and all it has to offer is just as important and instrumental to your child’s development as the Nursery-based activities. The beautiful setting is ideal for welly walks and the exploration and discovery of the extensive grounds. And when it’s time to explore further afield, the buses transport us to local attractions to enjoy seasonal walks and picnics.

DANCE
Combining three of the Early Learning Goals – Communication and Language, Personal Development and Physical Development – dance is a fun way for your child to express themselves whilst developing new skills. The dance lessons not only build self-confidence, self esteem and performance skills, but also encourage children to use their imagination. From listening to music, following instructions, practising, interacting and dancing with other children, to developing spatial awareness, motor and social skills.

CLUBS & HOBBIES
The clubs run after school from 3.45pm until 4.30pm and are run by Pre-Prep teachers and specialist teaching staff.
