Facilities

Early Years
The Early Years School is situated within sixteen acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. The Early Years building is set in its own enclosed garden, providing a natural, safe and secure play area with logs, playhouse and outdoor play. The Early Years provides full and part-time care and education for boys and girls aged 4-6 with an enviable staff to pupil ratio of 1:6 or lower. We offer flexible sessions to suit individual needs with wrap-around care (7:30am – 6pm).As part of an all-through school the Early Years and Pre School are able to take advantage of the school facilities, preparing them for school life, watching many performances and concerts, a Early Years Sports Day, Assemblies, School Lunches and Forest Lodge. They give a very gentle and purposeful start to the formal education process, combining purposeful play and a stable educational structure. The main aim is to ensure the happy, all-round development of each child through a comprehensive and balanced range of exciting and challenging experiences. They cover the seven Areas of Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). At the centre of this learning is our commitment to making each child and their family feel secure, happy and valued. They place great importance on developing an excellent working relationship with our parents and fully appreciate the essential part they play in their child’s development. Learning through play is an integral part of Early Years life, and they use the facilities, both inside and out to give our children an extensive, rounded learning experience.

Prep
They place great emphasis on creating the right ethos for learning. Children work and play hard, strive for excellence and are encouraged and rewarded for achievements, effort and good behaviour.Within a happy atmosphere, they value and develop all the skills and talents of individual pupils. Teachers use a broad range of teaching strategies to ensure children remain focused and challenged, with the arts, sport, languages and STEM subjects promoting ‘all-round’ development. Academic examinations and tests are important, but young children really need to be properly prepared for the next stage in their education.  They believe in strengthening the ‘whole person’, with broader skills and positive attitudes. The children’s academic progress continues into the Reception class, where they encourage them to become independent learners. The children thrive in the carefully structured hands-on learning environment where they provide varied experiences at each child’s developmental level which we believe encourages academic success.Pupils are provided with academic and developmental building blocks, enabling them to make a positive start to life at school.  They learn to listen, sit properly, take instruction and work on small group projects and tasks.  Numeracy and literacy skills are essential, and we consolidate these alongside a stimulating and creative learning programme which includes sports, music, drama, dance, Forest School and Spanish.

Senior School
The Senior School takes pupils from their early teens through to their Advance Level studies, in a strongly supportive family environment, permitting full focus on study.Under the guidance of the teachers, your child will design a programme of learning that is tailored to their unique interests and skills and will help them achieve their goals. They combine first-class teaching with unusually high levels of individual care and attention in enviably small classes. This is supported by a school ethos which encourages and rewards effort, achievement and good behaviour. The examination results are impressive. They provide every student with a rounded education, catering for their own needs and abilities, developing their widest interests and strengths and enabling them to develop into a confident, happy, and successful young adult.

Scholarships

Bursaries & Scholarships
They offer bursaries for Senior School students only. The school is committed to providing access to a Hurst Lodge education to those whose circumstances may mean they cannot afford the full fees, or for those whose circumstances may change once their child is a pupil at the school. A bursary is a form of financial assistance that is means-tested, based on parental income. Bursaries are not dependent on academic ability but are awarded to pupils who are likely to gain most from a Hurst Lodge education and who will contribute fully to the life of the school.  Unlike many of independent schools Hurst Lodge is not a Registered Charity so bursary funds are very limited, we recommend that applications for bursaries are made either before or at the same time as registration. Bursaries can only be considered prior to the school offering a place.
