Heritage School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 4 to 16 (Gender - 4 to 16 )
Heritage School opened its doors on the 5th of September 2007 to 16 pupils aged 4-7. The intention was to add a year group every year up to age 16. That goal was realised eight years later, from September 2015, when Heritage had a class in each year group from Reception (Lower Prep) to Year 11 for the first time, with approximately 180 pupils enrolled. They are now—and plan to remain—a one-form entry mainstream school, with a maximum capacity of 200 pupils In the eight months prior to September 2007, all the necessary pieces came together: a small number of committed families, start-up funding, a small staff team, premises, a unique curriculum, registration with the Department for Education, an initial Ofsted inspection, preparation of classrooms, purchasing resources, and so on, and Heritage School was able to get started. Since then Heritage has grown steadily. They are grateful to the pioneering families and donors and to all the families who have chosen over the years to be part of Heritage School.
Heritage is a special place where the focus of everything we do is to enrich our pupils. The curriculum is highly inspiring and stimulating, with trips and extra-curricular activities creating still more opportunities. It could be likened to an abundant feast. The curriculum, together with excellent pastoral care, has created outstanding conditions for the healthy development of the pupils.Heritage is passionate about learning for its own sake, and seeks to nurture the flame of curiosity children bring to school at age 4. They are as interested in a child’s attitude to learning as they are in his or her academic results. The Enrichment Programme is an expression of this commitment. Every Wednesday or Friday afternoon is an open slot in the weekly timetable for pupils in Upper Prep to Year 8.
Clubs
A variety of clubs run after school for Junior and Senior pupils to enjoy. Choirs (Junior and Senior), Ensembles, Sports Clubs, Art Club, Spanish Club, Debating, Computing, and Chess are regular fixtures. They are pleased that Hacklab is running the computing club this year for the first time. There is a supervised Homework Club for Seniors, Monday – Thursday from 4-5pm. Other clubs are offered too and they are always open to new ideas for enriching after school activities. Parent helpers are often appreciated
D of E
Participation in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is encouraged for all pupils in Year 9 and up. It is possible to complete the Bronze and Silver Awards before leaving Heritage. The Expedition sections of the Bronze and Silver Awards are delivered as part of the Outdoor Education Programme.
Art
At Heritage they seek to develop keen powers of observation and attention to detail, and to develop the skills pupils need to accurately represent physical objects and create pleasing outcomes. They want the pupils to develop an aesthetic sense, an appreciation of beauty, and an ability to express their own ideas effectively in their work. Representing and responding to the natural world plays a particularly important role, including through our Nature Walks and subsequent Nature Notebook.
Music
The Music programme at Heritage aims to inspire all pupils to develop a love of music, at whatever stage of their musical journey they are on. From Lower Prep through to Year 8 all pupils have regular whole-class music lessons with a specialist teacher. Infants have one thirty-minute lesson each week, focusing on pitch matching, steady beat and composing, learned through games, movement and song.
Drama
Drama gives pupils an opportunity to grow in many important ways. Pupils develop unique empathy with their characters, an ability to confidently express themselves publicly, and a capacity to work effectively with others as part of a team. They experience the excitement and sense of achievement that comes from seeing a production through from beginning to end, including all of the practical elements such as staging and costuming.
