  • Every Wednesday afternoon a programme of CCF is undertaken for pupils in Year 10, 11 and the Sixth Form as part of the Personal Development and Leadership Scheme. The CCF comprises Army and Navy sections, with each offering training in outdoor pursuits, leadership, practical and military skills.
  • Music is held in very high regard at The Leys, and the Music School is a vibrant department at the heart of school life.
  • Each year sees a diverse and exciting range of drama performed by the school, including popular classics, contemporary and challenging works, large-scale West End musicals, and plays for young people.
  • Outdoor activities include Climbing, Sailing and Canoeing.
  • Dance styles range from the traditional Classical Ballet to more Modern-based Commercial Dance, as well as the growingly popular Contemporary Dance. Fitness classes such as Yoga, Pilates, Zumba and Aerobics are popular too.

Admission Details

ENTRY AT YEAR 7 (11+): There are 30 places available in Year 7: 18 day and 12 boarding. There are no Home Boarding places in Year 7 or 8. Candidates registered for entry to Year 7 will be tested in English, Mathematics and Reasoning (verbal, non-verbal and spatial) in the January of the year of entry. The English and Mathematics tests will be broadly in line with the National Curriculum KS2. Year 8 (12+) is not a standard entry point to The Leys. Please contact the Admissions Team should you wish to discuss possibilities.

STANDARD ENTRY AT YEAR 9 (13+):

There are just over 100 pupils in Year 9; approximately 60% are boarders or home boarders, and 40% are day pupils. Candidates registered for entry to Year 9 will be tested in English, Mathematics and Reasoning (verbal, non-verbal and spatial) in January of the year of entry. The English and Mathematics tests will be broadly in line with the National Curriculum. Pupils from St Faith's are able to take a pre-assessment two years prior to entry. Year 10 (14+) is not a standard entry point to The Leys. Please contact the Admissions Team should you wish to discuss possibilities.

ENTRY BY EARLY PRE-TESTING FOR YEAR 9 BOARDERS: In the Spring Term of Year 6 they invite all registered prospective boarding pupils to sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test Assessment, prior to joining The Leys in Year 9. Tests should be completed by the end of March. The on-line assessment will comprise Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Mathematics, which lasts approximately two and a half hours in total.The entry process also includes an interview with the Headmaster and a confidential report from your child's current school in Year 8.

ENTRY AT SIXTH FORM (16+): Pupils will normally be admitted to the Sixth Form if they have achieved at least an average of 5.5 at GCSE and at least a grade 4 in Maths and English. A grade 6 pass at GCSE is almost invariably the minimum requirement for starting an A level subject and grade 7 is preferred.

  • Boarders: £12,580 per term
  • Home Boarders: £9,465 per term
  • Day Pupils: £8,420 per term

YEAR 7 AND 8:

  • Boarders: £9,175 per term
  • Day Pupils: £6,080 per term

Scholarships

11+ SCHOLARSHIPS: While academic performance will be the major consideration in making these awards, the Headmaster is able to take into consideration a candidate's performance in the fields of Art, Music, Drama, Sport and Technology. 

13+ SCHOLARSHIPS: The number and value of the awards made each year depends on the quality of the candidates. They are available to all applicants, including current pupils at The Leys who are within the age range. In the case of external candidates the Headmaster/Headmistress of their present school should be informed of your intention, as his/her signature is needed for the Scholarship Forms and they may be able to offer advice. 

SIXTH FORM (16+) SCHOLARSHIPS: The Leys offers a number of Sixth Form Scholarships for Academic subjects, Music, Choral, Art, Drama and Sport. They are worth 5% of the fees and are open to those entering the School, as well as to current pupils. All external candidates should be registered for entry to The Leys.
