Facilities

Pre Prep
In the purpose-built Pre Prep department, we give children aged 3-7 years the confidence to achieve in all areas of school life and to have fun with their learning whilst placing a strong emphasis on early development of basic skills for reading, writing and maths. From the start of their school career, children are supported as individuals – developing at their own pace, nurtured and supported by caring, professional staff. They are structured in such a way as to enable all children to fulfil their potential within a positive, happy and secure environment.

Lower Prep (Years 3-6)
The Lower Prep at Edge Grove extends the Pre Prep foundation by challenging pupils academically, on the sports field or through the Creative Arts. They continue to develop children as independent learners, giving individuals a balance of support, challenge and extension, beyond the National Curriculum. They challenge children to extend their knowledge and skills, to become ‘thinkers’ and problem solvers and learning is enriched through an array of off-site trips and visitors to the school. Building on the solid foundation of earlier years, pupils in Years 5 and 6 develop an eagerness to learn and a spirit of independence. Our aim is to produce confident well rounded individuals, whilst affording them the best possible education.

Upper School (Years 7 & 8)
The Year 7 and 8 pupils feel a sense of achievement and privilege in reaching the Upper School. The curriculum remains diverse, challenging and entertaining but simultaneously prepares pupils appropriately for their 13+ examinations and scholarships.Alongside the academic curriculum, we focus on the key areas of study of Leadership, Enrichment & Life Skills, Outdoor Learning, and Charity & Service which is assessed via the Edge Grove Baccalaureate.

Things to note

Learning Success
At Edge Grove we offer additional support to pupils in a number of ways. The Learning Success department covers both SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) and is made up of an outstanding team of highly qualified individuals: The SENDCO, Dr Neil Alexander-Passe, is an academic and published author in the area of dyslexia, school-based trauma, and post-school success. He is a strong advocate in removing barriers to learning, and making use of technology and other resources to reduce the barriers to learning, so students can shine and demonstrate their potential

Creative Arts
The Creative Arts department is a vibrant and exciting place, providing cross curricular activities and lessons through drama, music and art. Workshops with practising artists are very important and we hold regular workshops and visits to encourage pupils in their craft. These have included life drawing, theatre visits, junk music, professional music ensembles and many more.

Forest School
Forest School focuses on an approach to learning that maximises the emotional, social and developmental benefits of education.Young people are stimulated by the outdoors and typically experience, over time, an increase in their self-belief, confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem solving skills and emotional wellbeing.

Sport
They aim to provide expertise for highly talented and enthusiastic games players, as well as for those who are less naturally at home on the games field but whom, nonetheless, will benefit from taking exercise and developing skills.Every pupil takes part in the formal sports programme three afternoons a week. Fixtures against other similar schools take place once a week, enabling our enthusiastic players to represent Edge Grove regularly in competition.
