Radlett Preparatory School Limited is Independent Primary school in Hertfordshire for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
Radlett Preparatory School was founded nearly 80 years ago in the centre of Radlett and moved to its present location in 1980. They aim to provide a first class education that inspires and motivates children within a happy and supportive school. By encouraging children to work hard and respect each other, we prepare them for the next stage of their lives. The main school is a substantial Georgian Grade II listed building, which is situated in delightful grounds which include extensive playing fields, a pond and an expanse of ancient woodland. The site dates back to the 15th century.
Lower School
In English the children will be using the Letters and Sounds scheme to introduce them to and take forward their Phonic work. By the end of Reception the children will be writing independently and this is a process that begins with overwriting, underwriting, using copy books and copying from the board. Their letter formation will be consolidated using the Nelson Handwriting scheme. They will be writing news, re-telling stories and beginning to understand sentence construction using full stops and capital letters. Reading books will be sent home twice weekly. In Maths the children will recognise and form their numbers, count accurately and do addition and subtraction using number lines. Other practical topic work in Maths will include weight, length, capacity, time and money. A series of topics across the year will be followed and Drama, RE, Music and working in the Outside Area will reflect those. There will also be plenty of time for play, construction, creative activities, Computing, sand and water.
Middle School
In Year 3 we build on the skills acquired over previous years, as well as preparing pupils for their time in the years to come. In English we concentrate on grammatical and spelling skills, using them to build and develop pupils’ writing. We support and encourage wide reading, alongside a love for books. In Maths we consolidate times tables and number bonds, and focus on the skills required to apply what has been learnt to word problems, including multi- step questions. Cross-curricular links are emphasised through Science, Art, History, Music and IT and pupils perform a year group play to their parents in the Spring Term.
Upper School
They offer a broad and interesting curriculum in Year 5 which takes account of the differing needs of our pupils. All pupils study Science, Geography, History, Music and Computing. In Mathematics, we cover long division, factors and multiples, revision of the four rules of numbers, time, fractions, data handling, problem solving and symmetry. In English, the pupils receive a strong grammatical grounding in parts of speech. They are also taught dictation, how to use dictionaries well, proof read and extend their vocabulary. They will encounter a large range of poems, stories, play scripts and non-fiction recounts by a
Music
Music lessons are an important part of the School curriculum. Pupils in Reception – Year 6 are taught by specialist teachers. These are supported by visiting music tutors who provide additional instrumental or singing lessons for our children in Year 3 – Year 6.The Music Department offers opportunities to develop skills through class lessons, choral and instrumental lessons and clubs. Class lessons are taken by Mrs James (Reception and Year 1 classes) and Mrs Harte (Years 2-6). From Year 3 upwards, children have the opportunity to take up instrumental or singing lessons with our visiting music tutors.
Drama and Productions
They are very proud at Radlett Prep of the standard of our drama productions. The children are encouraged to develop their confidence and performance skills in front of an audience on several occasions during their school career. The first introduction to performing in front of an audience of parents is in Reception at Christmas time when each class learns a poem and a song with actions. This is performed in our school hall on the stage with costumes and scenery.
After School & Lunch Clubs
Radlett Prep offers an enormous range of clubs and activities which are run either at lunch time or after school. The list of activities and clubs changes each term and all the children are invited to apply for as few, or as many of the clubs as they wish.
