Curriculum Overview
At Owen’s we aim to engage, inspire and challenge students of all abilities, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to experiment, investigate and create their own areas of expertise and reach their full potential. As students progress, they should be able to think creatively and critically; develop and respond to a thorough understanding of their place in an ever more complex society and to make informed and ethical choices. They should understand the significant impact they can have in shaping our future, whilst appreciating our shared current and historical cultural environment/heritage. Students should be equipped to foster a lifelong attitude of self-care through understanding the importance of wider reading, a healthy and active lifestyle; understanding the benefits and characteristics of positive relationships whilst staying safe physically, virtually and mentally.

Learning Support
Full inclusion is a high priority and we encourage all students to take an active role in their learning and all aspects of school life. The school maintains a LS register of students identified with statements of SEND. All staff have access to the LS register via the school intranet and Life VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). There is close liaison between the LS Department and all pastoral and subject staff to ensure progress is monitored, and any provision adjusted when necessary.

Sixth Form
They warmly welcome applications from external candidates to join our Sixth Form. The choice of where to study is an important decision and we hope the information provided here will be helpful in this process. We believe further that success in exams is of prime importance, but we seek to develop our students both personally and socially as well.

Things to note

Art Exihibition
The Art Department is delighted to showcase Dame Alice Owen’s first Virtual Art Exhibition for both GCSE and A-Level. Throughout their respective courses, our students have worked incredibly hard. They have produced some outstanding work demonstrating creativity and skill and it is an absolute pleasure to be able to celebrate their achievements with you online.

Extra Curricular Activities
Extra Curricular Activities are encouraged at Owen’s! Our Extra Curricular Activities Timetable is scheduled at the beginning of each School Year, giving details of activities from Sept – July. There may be small changes throughout the year, depending on the teachers offering these activities – students will need to be pro-active and check with individual staff members for details.

Library
The well-stocked Library is the centre for independent learning and reading throughout the school. The Library aims to provide a safe and secure environment to support and enhance teaching and learning where all students are encouraged to become independent lifelong learners and to enjoy reading for pleasure.
