Facilities

EYFS and Pre-Prep
The girls start in our Early Years Foundation Stage Reception class. They soon settle in and are happy, bouncing into school each day. The curriculum is designed to build on the skills that individual girls will have worked on prior to Stormont.  We provide a secure environment designed to stimulate, excite and challenge them developing their confidence and self-esteem. They have a real desire for learning, which helps them achieve their full potential. We take the responsibility of developing well balanced girls very seriously. By October Reception have the confidence to perform on stage in our Harvest Festival celebrations in front of the whole school and parents. By Christmas they are fully involved in a Nativity production singing songs and performing in small groups and by the Spring Term they are able to perform their own class assembly!

Prep
They have high expectations of our girls and want them to achieve their best.  Differentiation is essential in ensuring that the needs of every girl are met and we offer every girl the opportunity to reach their potential, whatever her abilities.  Each class has a maximum of twenty-four pupils and are then taught in half-classes for most subjects by specialist teachers.   This unique approach to learning allows the girls to get the best education in smaller groups and with a high ratio of one adult to twelve they will flourish and become confident in their knowledge and have a good rapport with their teacher.

Features

Things to note

Extra-Curricular
They have a wide variety of clubs that girls in Years 1 to 6 can take part in and are led by either a member of our staff which are free or an external club leader in a specialist field for which there is a charge.  We try to offer a balance of activities across the week before school, lunchtimes and after school and each term there is something different to try.

Drama
Drama is an important part of the curriculum, where Speaking and Listening objectives from the national curriculum are tackled and extended. Teachers use opportunities to make meaningful cross-curricular links, for example, characters studied during History lessons, and issues around global warming are brought to life. Characters’ behaviour is observed, analysed and mimicked in different ways. Drama games, group work, physical theatre and improvisation are all ways in which the girls are given the opportunity to develop their skills and improve their confidence.

Music
At Stormont School we seek to give children the tools to access and appreciate music and to inspire and enable them to make their own. We believe that music plays an integral part of a child’s development, and that it allows them to have a platform to express themselves. Music is a universal language with holistic links to all school subjects, and here at Stormont School we encourage children to explore, create and communicate so we can nurture and help build their confidence.
