Caldicott School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 7 to 13 (Gender - 7 to 13 )
Caldicott School has long been associated with the very best of modern independent education, especially boarding. They take seriously our responsibility to our boys so that they can emerge as decent, open-minded adults; ambitious about what they can go on to achieve and contribute, but never arrogant.Caldicott values are perseverance, integrity, courage, compassion and humour. These words are both an inspiration and an anchor, ensuring that all we do is in the best interest of the boys. Caldicott teachers don’t just pay lip service to the concept of character education, they are encouraged to continually reflect on the delivery and content of their subject so that it aligns with the goals of instilling and inspiring positive morals, ideals and conduct.
Academic
Caldicott is a highly ambitious yet caring school where the curriculum inspires both boys and the excellent teachers to enjoy learning and to work collaboratively to make the community, and hopefully the world, a better place. When boys leave Caldicott, they will continue to flourish at their new school and enrich the lives of all those they encounter. In order for this to happen, we need to ensure that when they are at Caldicott, we are instilling in them, via the many opportunities in and outside the classroom, the values of humour, compassion, courage, perseverance and integrity.Right from 1st Form (Year 3), our youngest boys are introduced to Critical Thinking where they develop the patience to listen to others and consider questions that don’t have a single, ‘correct’ answer. They learn to view the world from another person’s perspective. As the boys make progress through the different stages, this grounding in cognitive, social and digital literacy helps boys appreciate the fact that the knowledge they acquire in the various subjects is merely a vehicle to help link the many skills that they need to be a better global citizen. They hope that this journey will also expose them to the importance of having a passion for something and sharing it with others.
Boarding
The rhythm and routine of boarding life means that boys make the most of every single day in a 24-hour cycle of rest, enrichment, good food, physical activity and intellectual challenge. At Caldicott we cherish childhood. The boys’ downtime is spent playing with friends in our glorious 40 acres of grounds, or taking advantage of the wonderful facilities on offer.A typical day will start with a cooked breakfast: fuel for a busy day of lessons, sport and extra-curricular opportunities. After school comes low tea, prep and supper, and then after supper there are a huge amount of activities for boys to throw themselves into, which might be creative, cerebral or sporty. At the end of the day, boys will unwind with a hot drink in the snug and get ready to relax with a good book before lights out.
Sport
Every boy has access to exceptionally high quality coaching, outstanding facilities and a broad range of opportunities to relish enjoyment through sport. The ‘sports for all’ philosophy is key to how the Sports Department runs at Caldicott and enables us to provide our boys with incredible life experiences as they form long-lasting memories with their closest friends. Caldicott teaches lessons to the boys that they take with them off the field: the ability to persevere, work in a team, and tackle challenges with a smile are a few examples of this.
Trips
Sports tours hone teamwork and competitive spirit, cultural trips broaden horizons and academic trips offer enrichment to the boys’ favourite subjects. Residential trips begin in 2nd Form (Year 4) and as boys get older, they are presented with the opportunity to travel abroad on a number of exciting occasions (covid restrictions-allowing). A couple of examples for this year include a sports tour to Dubai as well as a trip to Iceland for senior boys.On a more regular basis, the boys will enjoy visiting the theatre, galleries, activity camps and places of historic or geographical interest.
Activities
The Caldicott Activities Programme is tailored to boys in 3rd Form (Year 5) and above, and is a strength of the school. Whether your son is sporty, cerebral or creative, there is an activity to keep him fit, challenged and inspired. Most activities are in-house and led by our talented teachers, but some are run by visiting coaches. There is no limit to the amount of activities that boys can attend, but all boys are encouraged to join in with at least two a week. Activities are seasonal and changed each term. Think kayaking, croquet and kite-making in the summer, with cooking, kickboxing and coding in the winter. Other examples include archery, golf, judo, squash, basketball, climbing, entrepreneur club, creative thinking, chess, debating, art and model-making and play-writing.

The Hitchin Scholarship
The Hitchin Scholarship is operating under the goal of finding new boys currently in Year 6, who would join Caldicott in Year 7 (5th Form) with strong academic potential and who are ‘all-rounders’.To qualify for the scholarship, the pupil will need strong academic potential in Maths and English and excellence in at least one of the following optional areas: Sport (a ‘core sport’ of rugby, cricket or football), Music, Art or Drama. Means-tested bursaries can supplement the scholarship, with a limited number of fully-funded places where there is proven financial need.
Bursaries
There is a small bursarial pot that they hope to grow, which is in place to support existing parents in temporary financial difficulty and to allow for new applications where boys demonstrate significant academic or sporting talent, but where their parents would otherwise be unable to afford full fees. Awards of this kind are means-tested.It is very important to apply as early as possible, usually at least a year in advance, when seeking a means-tested bursary.
