Dair House School

Description

Dair House School is Independent Primary school in Buckinghamshire for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Dair House School is a co-educational, independent prep school and nursery in Farnham Royal, South Buckinghamshire, for children from rising threes to eleven years old. Our Infant and Junior School attracts families from surrounding areas such as Farnham Common, Slough, Gerrard’s Cross, Wooburn Green, Denham, Stoke Poges, Fulmer and further afield in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. They are a highly supportive school in which all children are encouraged to tackle new challenges and learn from their mistakes. We believe strongly that children really thrive in our highly caring and positive environment, where effort is as important as achievement. They have recognised the urgent need to help young children recover from the impact of the lockdowns by increasing the length of our school day to incorporate for all age groups. ‘Dair to Go Wild!’ a version of Forest School.

Early Years Foundations Stage
The Early Years Practitioners strive to give the children a balanced introduction to school life in all of the seven areas of learning in a relaxed and happy environment. Children access the curriculum through adult initiated tasks interspersed with creative play. We do teach reading, number work and writing, as well as creative play. The children in our Nursery are very much part of the life at Dair House and attend assemblies and school performances as much as possible. We take pride in our highly personal service. The children in the Nursery enjoy a lovely purpose built classroom with integrated toilets and interactive whiteboard. We have fantastic, completely private and secure playing fields, with a new outdoor classroom and play equipment. The children in the Nursery also use the school hall and dining room.

Key Stage 1
Dair House takes pride in its small class sizes throughout Key Stage1.Teaching is mainly classroom based with the class teacher providing individual care and attention, as well as teaching English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and PSHE to their class.Subjects such as Art, Music, French, Games/PE and Computing are taught by specialists. This provides a broad and balanced curriculum which is essential for each child’s continued development. The subjects taught in Years 1 and 2 are as follows: English, Mathematics, Science, French, Humanities, RE, PSHE, ICT, Art, Design & Technology, Music, Games, PE and Swimming.

Keys Stage 2
Children in Key Stage 2 follow the same broad curriculum as those in Key Stage 1. However, we do make some additions to prepare the children for entrance to senior Independent and Grammar schools. They introduce Thinking Skills from Year 4 in which children’s learning skills are developed. In Years 5 and 6, children are taught English, Mathematics, Science, French, PE/Games, Art, Music, RE, Design and Technology and Computing by separate teachers. Music
Music is an integral part of our curriculum. All our children from Nursery to Year 6 have two lessons of Music each week. Inspired by our dynamic Mrs J. Bull, Music continues to grow in popularity every term.Children are given the opportunity to study a musical instrument with peripatetic teachers. At the moment Dair House offers piano, flute, violin, drum, guitar, trombone, tenor horn, trumpet, clarinet and saxophone lessons. Almost 90% of children in Key Stage 2 now learn an individual instrument and are regularly passing Associated Board of Music exams. Indeed from Year 1 upwards, nearly every child is involved in an extra-curricular musical activity.

Drama
Acting on stage is a crucial feature of the school as it helps promote self-belief.Every term each class performs a Thursday morning assembly, usually based on one of the topics they are studying. These assemblies are popular with the children and their parents.Christmas gives the opportunity for all our children from Nursery to Year 2 to act and sing on stage in our Christmas Nativity performance. There is always an annual production. We have produced a wide range of shows as the following list of titles illustrates: “Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured  Dreamcoat,” “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, “The Peace Child”,   “The Wind in The Willows” and “Dream On”. The productions are all inclusive with every child in Key Stage 2 fully involved.
