At Ashfold, they offer the children an education that is full of challenges, full of opportunities and full of fun. They welcome children into the Pre-Prep from 3-7 years and in the Prep School from 7-13 years old.Set within 30 acres of stunning grounds in the Buckinghamshire countryside, with outstanding facilities, they are easily accessible from Oxford, Bicester, Winslow, Aylesbury and Thame. They aim to give the children the firmest possible grounding in the core academic subjects, but also look to develop their wider interests through the breadth of the curriculum. They take full advantage of the grounds, playing fields and woods, ensuring that the children spend lots of time outside every day. The activities programme gives the children opportunities to develop their skills, to find a new talent or simply to have fun with their friends doing something different.
Pre Prep
During their time with them, children grow and develop at a rapid rate. They are privileged to witness their progress and support them on their educational journey. The aim is to give every child the best possible start to their education. They believe in laying firm foundations in the essential skills and giving children the confidence to succeed in all areas of school life. They combine tried and testing teaching methods with new and innovative ideas. The approach is all about creating an exciting and engaging learning environment so that children can develop their individual talents and personalities. The Pre-Prep is a warm, welcoming and friendly place, and the staff are enthusiastic and passionate about creating a rich and varied learning experience for every child.
Junior
In the Junior Department we encourage children to explore the many opportunities on offer at Ashfold so that they can discover their individual strengths and interests and develop their confidence. As the children move up through the Department, they begin to move between classrooms and benefit from more subject specialist teaching. Each year group has two classes and class sizes remain small, allowing for plenty of individual attention. The curriculum is broad and challenging and allows the children to be creative, imaginative and inspired. They take great pride in helping them develop the right skills to succeed in their first steps towards independent learning.
Senior
In the Senior Department (Years 5, 6, 7 and 8) children begin to take greater ownership of their learning than in the junior years. The emphasis naturally becomes more academic but they know that it is the breadth of opportunities on offer at Ashfold that enables the children to develop their knowledge and skills and succeed to the best of their ability. They prepare children for Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations and are extremely proud of the academic record. Each year around half of the Sixth Form children take a wide range of Scholarship examinations to some of the best schools in the country. Some children also sit the 11+ examinations to the Buckinghamshire grammar schools.
Activities
The programme allows the children to learn new and develop existing skills as well as socialise with children in other year groups. It also allows the children to take responsibility for their own decisions as they make informed choices about which activities they wish to do, each term. Children are involved with developing the breadth and style of activities on offer, discussing the programme of activities during school council meetings.
Art
At Ashfold, the Art Room & Ceramics Studio are exciting and fun places to be! We encourage children to explore and experiment with a wide range of media and techniques. The aim is to nurture children's creativity and develop their confidence and enthusiasm for the visual world. In Pre-Prep 1 and Pre-Prep 2 (Nursery - Reception), children are taught Art in their Form Rooms by their Form Teachers. From Pre-Prep 3 (Year 1) onwards, children have a double Art lesson each week with the Head of Art in our new Art & Design Centre.
Sport
Sport is an important part of life at Ashfold and we have a superb sporting programme. Children participate in a wide range of sports and they aim to develop their skills and understanding, whatever their ability. They want every child to enjoy sport and they are inclusive in giving each child to represent the school in competitive fixtures throughout the year. They always encourage children to strive for excellence while impressing on them the importance of team spirit and sportsmanship.
