Features

  • Adventure play: Let your imagination run (or fly) wild in our adventure play spaces, where nature and fun go hand in hand. From jumping over lily pad trampolines and splashing in water streams to climbing through log tunnels and scaling the summit of our towering climbing frames, there’s something for explorers from pre-school to teenagers to enjoy.
  • Canoe Safari: A canoe safari is an adventurous way to explore the winding waterways of our wetland centre and discover areas you can’t reach on foot. As you glide past reed beds and beneath overhanging tree branches, keep your eyes peeled for dazzling dragonflies skimming across the water’s surface – as well as other wetland wildlife like kingfishers, otters and herons.
  • Summer Walkway: Slimbridge is home to over 300 hectares of wild wetland nature reserve with spectacular views of the Severn Estuary. Our internationally important natural intertidal saltmarsh gives way to wet grasslands and shallow lakes and ponds which are a haven for wildlife.
  • Pond dipping: Pond dipping is a fun way to meet the incredible insects and awesome amphibians who call our humble ponds home. From spiky dragonfly nymphs and slippery newts to back-stroking beetles and graceful water boatmen, you’ll come face to face with all kinds of weird and wonderful wetland creatures.
  • Scott House Museum: Take a step back in time as you enter Sir Peter Scott’s home where he championed the cause of worldwide wildlife conservation through growing the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) and set up the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
  • Living Wetland Theatre: Welcome to the 360 seat open air Living Wetland Theatre where you can watch birds flying overhead and discover how each bird is adapted to the wetlands they live in. Sit back and relax and watch one of our films or interactive live demonstrations hosted by our specialist team as they uncover the science behind wetland conservation.
  • Nature reserve: Outside the fox proof fence lies a wild area of land managed by Slimbridge’s wardens. This huge area encompasses the grasslands to the shores of the Severn estuary and is a haven for wildlife. The reserve provides shelter and food for flocks of swans, geese and ducks in the winter and is an ideal breeding ground for waders in the summer months.
  • Wild Safaris: Adventure into the wild with our Reserve Wardens and Volunteers, splash through ditches and trundle along the sea wall. Discover UK wildlife at its best and to go behind-the-scenes for access to the Reserve that you wouldn’t normally get to see!
