With five acres of forest to explore, the centre has something for everyone to enjoy and learn in amongst a spectacular backdrop. Wander through five modern learning galleries, explore a number of historical outdoor displays, marvel at exciting arts and crafts demonstrations or head out on one of the activity trails. 

For Families: The Dean Heritage Centre has a variety of different activities that are family friendly. Whether you have young children or pre-teens, there’s always something new and exciting to explore on activity trails and there are always new friends to be made in woodland playground!

Indoor & Outdoor Activities: Interactive displays, loads of indoor fun! Fully interactive and great fun, indoor activity trails will help you to learn more about the centre and its fascinating exhibits.There's always something new to learn and discover. Outdoor woodland trails with picnic spots: Head outside and explore using one of the outdoor  trails. Fully interactive and challenging, outdoor activity trails will enable you to learn interesting facts about the Centre and its surroundings. The outdoor trails ensure there’s always something new to learn and discover. 

Rainy Day Guarantee: The Centre has both indoor and outdoor exhibits - but if you cannot enjoy the outdoor activities due to heavy rain and flooding, they'll give you a voucher to come back free of charge, within the following month, when the weather is better.

The Gruffalo Trail: Meet the Gruffalo deep in the woods. The woodland trail is based on the much loved children's book, The Gruffalo. Set in amongst five acre site, wander with the famous mouse as he makes his journey through the woodland surrounding the Dean Heritage Centre and meet the various animals along the way. Along the trail you will discover how he gets out of some tricky situations and enjoy the brilliant story, whilst admiring these much loved character carvings.

Woodland Playground: Have fun and be active in the woodland playground. The playground is having some new equipment installed and some older equipment replaced - do come along and try it out! Complete with a swing, various climbing frames playground is perfect for making new friends and learning new skills. There is a picnic table there for drinks and a sit down for grown-ups.

The Craft Hut: Let's get creative! After exploring outdoors and around the fun activity trails in the museum, Craft Hut is the perfect place for younger visitors to settle down and get creative. A great option on a rainy day! The Craft Hut is open at weekends and during the school holidays.

Nature & Wildlife: Located on a five acre site, stunning nature and wildlife surrounds the Dean Heritage Centre all year round. From extensive walking trails to exciting wildlife spotting, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the great outdoors.

Group Bookings: The Dean Heritage Centre is a great destination to organise a group visit to. The stunning five acre site provides an excellent place to start a day out in the Forest of Dean. There are two main types of visit available to groups including a self-guided visit and a guided tour. BBQ & Picnic: The Dean Heritage Centre is the perfect place to enjoy a family picnic or BBQ. A number of picnic sites available across five acre site for you to sit down, relax, eat and enjoy the view. The perfect end to a family day out! Picnics can be purchased from the Coffee Shop but must be pre-booked. 

The Paddock: The Paddock is a quiet, secluded area in the grounds of the Dean Heritage Centre. It is accessible from the Gruffalo Trail and the car park and is a perfect spot for kid’s parties, picnics, friends and family get togethers or just to enjoy being in a beautiful spot in complete privacy.There is a mix of shady and sunny areas, a small covered area and we have a yurt available to hire by the day. You are also very welcome to bring along your own garden gazebo to use for your event.The Paddock is available to book by the hour from Easter to the end of September during the Dean Heritage Centre opening hours and costs just £10.00 per hour.

By Car: Soudley. The centre is easily accessible from most major motorway networks and roads. Don’t forget to look out for the brown tourist information signs as you drive into the Forest of Dean! Please be aware that postcode will take you just beyond the centre’s actual location when coming from the North and West, but keep your eyes peeled for the DHC entrance sign!

By Public Transport: The Bevan Bus number 717 runs between Cinderford and Lydney with the Dean Heritage Centre as a request stop. Please visit their website for a timetable of their services.
