The Tank Museum tells the story of tanks and the crews that served in them. At the largest indoor attraction in Dorset, you can explore the broadest and most significant collection of armoured vehicles in the world.

The museum houses 300 military machines, representing the key battles of every major conflict since the First World War. Our moving exhibitions tell the story of this British invention; from the mud of the Somme to the beaches of Normandy and the deserts of Iraq – featuring powerful stories from the soldiers that fought in them.

  • Our Galleries: Our Museum has six large gallery spaces, housing our 9 powerful exhibitions, 300 armoured vehicles, personal objects, stories, medals, and more. PLUS during our school holidays and events, enjoy live action displays and vehicle rides in the Kuwait Arena.
  • Arena Action: See what’s happening in The Tank Museum’s arena throughout the year. Not all museums are quiet! The tanks in our collection were built to move, so we try and provide as many opportunities as possible for guests to see them in action.
  • Military Visits & Tours: With an unrivalled collection of historical and modern vehicles and dedicated SME support, The Tank Museum offers military personnel a unique environment to support Battlefield Studies, formal and informal training events and unit days out.

Facilities

  • Parking: The Tank Museum has a large free car park, and overflow car parking when required. There is a large disabled parking area at the closest point to the Museum and motorbike and bicycle parking is available.
  • Food & Drinks: The Tank Museum has a café and restaurant which provides hot drinks, snacks, sandwiches, and hot meals. You are welcome to bring your own food and we have both inside and outside picnic areas.
  • toilets: There are toilets on every floor, including a mix of male, female, and single-stall accessible toilets. At our Special Events, there are also single-stall and urinal portable toilets around the site. 
  • WiFi: There is free WiFi throughout The Tank Museum.

  • By Car: The Tank Museum is in south Dorset near Wareham and is signposted by the Brown tourist signs when approaching from Dorchester, Blandford, Weymouth and Poole.
  • By Train: The Tank Museum’s nearest station is Wool (1.5 miles), which is on the South Western Railway mainline from London Waterloo to Weymouth, you can find the timetable here. Trains are frequent in both directions, and whilst it is walkable in about 30 minutes, you may prefer using local taxi company instead (Garrison Cars, T: 07877 245 234). Taxis are available from Wool Station.
  • By Bike: The Tank Museum have a bike rack located in the main car park for visitors to lock their own bikes whilst visiting the Museum. Visitors need to bring their own bike locks and leave their bikes at their own risk.
  • By Bus: The Tank Museum’s is seasonally served by local bus services – although these are subject to change. Please see current bus timetable HERE and bus map HERE. There is a shuttle bus from the station on Special Event days, check back here nearer the event for timings.
