Facilities

Home Learning
Independent Study or homework is considered to be an integral part of the school curriculum and provides an essential framework to enable students to become independent learners.

Send
At Wirral Grammar School for Boys, they believe that all pupils have equal value and worth and that all pupils irrespective of their additional needs will play a full and active role in the life of the school both in and outside the classroom. We believe that all pupils should have full access to the curriculum, that specialist provision should be available according to their level of need and that all staff are responsible for ensuring that pupils with additional needs achieve their full potential.

Sixth Form
Wirral Grammar Sixth Form provides a vibrant, challenging and secure place to study, by this they mean they provide the ideal climate for high academic success: they place high expectations on our students but help to facilitate this by offering specialist teaching and close supervision and support. Whether students intend to go onto a selective university or a high-level apprenticeship, they will find a wide range of academic A Levels and appropriate advice to facilitate their preferred route. In the last few years our school has become the ‘first choice’ for students who recognise the true value of an exciting and challenging Sixth Form education alongside a diverse range of extra-curricular and student leadership opportunities. We also actively welcome applications from external applicants who wish to join us for their sixth form experience; the same eligibility criteria will apply for all applicants.

Features

Things to note

CLUBS & SOCIETIES
Extra-curricular activities are an important aspect of life at Wirral Grammar School and we encourage all pupils to take part. It is through the extra curricular life of the school that important ‘life-skills’ including leadership, team work, cooperation, problem-solving and enterprise are developed. Extra-curricular opportunity is an important aspect of the spiritual, moral and cultural life of the the school; a good example of this being the raising of £15,000 in one year for the boys’ own choice of school charity.

SPORT
Physical Education and Games play a major role within the School and extra-curricular sport is an area in which we pride ourselves. Our ethos is not just about developing elite sportsmen but also about providing all boys with the opportunity to participate and achieve the best they can! Consequently, we offer sport on both a competitive and a recreational level.

MUSIC
The provision of extra-curricular music is a key feature of our school and participation levels are exceptionally high. Over one third of all boys participate in music lessons and we have no fewer than 18 ensembles, each led by a specialist music teacher. Student involvement at every level forms a key feature of our music provision and this is facilitated through our pupil-led Music Society. Visits overseas, regular Music Society and Chamber Concerts, music competitions and a host of community activities all combine to make extra-curricular music something that is very special at Wirral Grammar School. Our parents believe that our music provision contributes significantly to pupils’ cultural and spiritual development.

PEER SUPORT GROUP
The Peer Support Group is a group of sixth form students who are dedicated to ensuring that the school community is enjoyed by everyone. Not only do we help with organisation of events such as the Year 7 Charity Quiz, but the vast majority of our time goes towards mentoring Year 7s and making sure that they are settled and happy in WGSB. We not only do this during the transition, but also through the year, with each Teaching Group having two dedicated PSG reps that they meet regularly. Our PSG make a positive contribution to the safeguarding of pupils at Wirral GSB.
