Welcome to the Widford Lodge Preparatory School Website. Widford Lodge is a small family owned school that prides itself on providing an environment where children between 2½ to 11+ can flourish. Traditional values are at the core of the school’s philosophy, but we are mindful that we are preparing youngsters for a rapidly changing world. Pre Prep School
Children enter Pre-Prep School in the academic year in which they turn six, before entering the Prep School after their seventh birthday. Pupils develop their interests and talents in small classes, with caring and enthusiastic teachers with whom they spend most of their day. The Pre-Prep school day runs from 8.45am until 3.15pm. Classrooms are vibrant and stimulating, with lots of children’s work on display and resources around the room to foster a natural curiosity and thirst for learning.
Prep School
As an independent school, we are able to refine the curriculum to suit our ethos whilst preparing the children for a variety of academic challenges. Many of our children sit the 11+ and take entrance and scholarship exams to local senior independent schools. All of our pupils take Key Stage 2 SATs in their final term at school. Our gifted teachers, subject specialists and small class sizes ensure our pupils work at pace, making progress whilst taking increasing responsibility for their work and effort.
Sport
Sport is an integral part of the rounded education we provide, offering challenges and leadership opportunities to all of our pupils. They have a nine-acre field and floodlit tennis court and pupils from Years 1 to 6 swim weekly at Riverside for one term each year on a rota basis.
Music
All of the children have weekly classroom music lessons where they sing, play percussion instruments, listen and appraise music. There are many opportunities to perform and compose music.
Art
Every student is encouraged to develop their ideas and explore their artistic talents, using a broad range of techniques. Pupils develop their skills in painting, drawing, mixed-media, sculpture and print making. Art and design technology is taught in a dedicated, fully equipped studio, complete with a range of light machine tools and kiln.
Drama
Drama helps children to develop listening and communication skills, elocution, performance and life skills which is why we place an emphasis on this area of our children’s learning. As well as curriculum drama, pupils have the opportunity to get involved in a number of productions during the year.
