The Queen's Church of England Primary School, Kew is a State Primary school for kids aged 4 to 11. They provide a learning journey that encourages our children to be independent, well-rounded, kind and confident individuals – supported and nurtured by valued and committed staff. They encourage all the children to flourish academically, spiritually and personally – and to achieve the highest academic standards possible for each child, within a stimulating, creative and secure learning environment. The Christian values of Love, Compassion and Respect are at the heart of everything they do. The school is welcoming and inclusive; they value equality and celebrate diversity, and our children know the nature of God from a Christian perspective, whilst developing their own beliefs of Christianity, other faiths or no faith. The pupils leave at the end of Year 6 equipped with the skills to embrace the secondary school of their choice and with the core values to guide them on their life journey with the knowledge that God loves us all.
Curriculum: The curriculum at The Queen’s School is structured to enable pupils to have a rich, sequential and diverse range of experiences, based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and National curriculum objectives; broad and balanced with the development of skills and knowledge deepening and embedding as pupils progress from EYFS to year 6. The knowledge and skill progression maps detail how learning is built on year by year, ensuring pupils reinforce existing learning, and have the foundation for the learning of new knowledge and skills. Units of work are sequenced to support the building of concepts over time, increasing in complexity as children develop their understanding and can start to apply concepts to new learning, whilst also providing opportunities to revisit learning and embed skills and knowledge for all pupils and particularly those with additional needs (SEN).
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): The EYFS Curriculum is the starting point for all learners at The Queen’s School. The curriculum facilitates all pupils to gain a broad range of skills, knowledge and understanding. They offer a broad, experience-rich curriculum that is tailored to meet the needs and interests of each individual child, focusing on the development of the whole-child and inspiring a love of learning to ensure children are engaged and motivated from the moment they begin their learning journey at The Queen’s School.
After-School Clubs: They offer a wide selection of after-school enrichment activities, generally running for an hour after the end of the school day. The offer varies each term, and is advertised to parents towards the end of the previous term.
Extra-curricular Sport: As well as sport and PE, including swimming, within the curriculum, we have a wide range of extra-curricular sport activities, making full use of our 3G pitch. We have early morning football and touch rugby, and a running club.
Extra-curricular Music: Music is at the heart of life at Queen's. Even during Covid lockdowns, our critical workers' children could be heard drumming and playing ukulele in the playground. Music is an important part of the curriculum, and in addition the orchestra and choir meet regularly before school to practise and prepare for concerts. Group guitar tuition is available, and individual instrumental tuition during the school day is offered through the Richmond Music Trust.
