Nursery
We feel that it is important when choosing a Nursery for your child to have confidence in the care that your child receives. We provide a happy environment, where the needs of both the parent and child are met.We are proud of how the Nursery has grown and whatthey have achieved. It is important that we share these things with you, whether this is through the monthly newsletters or the daily contact you have with the caring staff in the Nursery. We also value your comments, which enable us to continue to improve the service we offer. The Peterborough School Nursery is committed to nurturing babies, toddlers and pre-school children in a happy, lively and caring environment.
Prep School
The Preparatory School provides a broad and balanced curriculum to meet the needs of each boy and girl. Children’s learning is stimulated and supported at every opportunity. Each class is taught by a full-time teacher with specialist input from Senior School staff. The Infant classes follow a carefully planned, thematic approach to learning to support children’s natural curiosity and stimulate their creativity. This creative curriculum offers children the opportunity to work in depth, giving them the time they need to reflect, consolidate and transfer their learning. Teachers draw out and develop children’s thinking and capacities in meaningful contexts using direct experiences. In Upper Prep we follow the new Primary Curriculum but as an independent school we can tailor the curriculum to meet children’s requirements. Senior School staff teach French, German, reasoning, food technology, music, drama and physical education.
Senior School
The Peterborough School is committed to small class sizes throughout Senior School. Classes are large enough to encourage discussions and a lively atmosphere but small enough to ensure every boy and girl is noticed and listened to. The unique talents of each child are identified and developed, whether they are in the classroom, in the creative arts or on the sports field. Their academic performance is tracked closely and reviewed regularly to ensure that they are working well and making good progress. Students have individual targets set for them and parents enjoy regular written and verbal reports.Students receive an all-round holistic education at The Peterborough School. They provide an environment in which boys and girls develop a sense of right and wrong. They promote kindness, courtesy and consideration of others. This is a caring school and they believe passionately that unless children are happy they will not learn well. Students mature confidently in a secure environment.
Music
Music has a special place in the life of The Peterborough School. We offer pupils the opportunity to engage with music as performers and in the classroom, while singing plays an integral part of the School’s community gatherings. As a department, we seek to nurture the all-round musician and unlock a love of music and performance for all our students. Across a broad spectrum of musical genres children are able to receive instrumental and vocal tuition, sing beautiful choral music, explore musical theatre, and perform as soloists or within musical ensembles from jazz and rock bands to our school orchestra. The extra-curricular life of the Music Department is vibrant, providing many valuable opportunities for those studying music at all levels to experience the excitement of live performance.
