The Beeches Independent School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 9 to 19 (Gender - 9 to 19 )
The Beeches was established to provide care for children and young people aged between 8 – 25 years. They work in partnership with local authorities to achieve positive outcomes for the young people who are placed in our care, and to enable them to acquire the practical life skills they need in order to live as independently as able. The scope of practice has widened significantly since they first began providing residential childcare services in 2003, and they now provide a combination of Ofsted registered residential childcare services, supported living services (four of which are CQC registered), and educational services. The educational services are provided through the very own on-site school, The Beeches Independent Special School, which opened in 2012 and offers specialist education to children with autism and/or learning difficulties.
School Curriculum
The Beeches Independent Special School is committed to providing an engaging and influential curriculum for each of our young people. The ethos is that all students are able to make progress and achieve, whatever their ability. At The Beeches Independent School, teaching groups are differentiated according to ability with topics and schemes of work matched to prior attainment. They use topics from Cornerstones Education as the basis for our learning and, wherever possible, we match topics across levels of ability. This allows them to plan and facilitate meaningful enrichment activities and visits that can be accessed by all of our students. This model also allows us to measure progress across ability groups, by mapping skills that develop throughout the six years of Mars, Venus and Jupiter. At the end of each academic year, students will complete a ‘Catch-up’ unit, the content of which will be decided by factors such as: attainment, attendance, attitude to learning and progress.
Extra Curricular Activities
The Beeches promotes a wide range of activities such as: Music, Swimming, Horse-riding, Bike-riding, Caring for animals. Children discuss their activities during weekly meetings where they are able to express their likes / dislikes and make suggestions. Many of the children at The Beeches attend after school clubs. Some of these clubs are designed to promote confidence and self esteem whilst teaching the children the necessary life skills to enable them to become more independent in areas such as: cooking, gardening and simple household chores (setting the table, washing up etc.)
