Features

Things to note

MUSIC
Join in and be part of our excellent music activities! Performing in front of an audience often involves a test of nerves, requiring an abundance of confidence and control. But the rewards can be great! At the Latymer School we have a history of musical excellence and we encourage our young people to practice teamwork and patience, while also experiencing the thrill of performing by taking part in the many extracurricular activities organised by the Music Department.

DRAMA
Aiding students to communicate, articulate, and empathise, drama plays an important role at the Latymer School. The number of students who participate in annual productions is high, and the whole school turns out to support performers on show nights.

SPORTS
The high-quality teaching and coaching, along with excellent facilities, enable our young sportsmen and women to participate in teams and competitions at a very high level. Our students participate in local, regional and national competitions, and they get the opportunity to develop and hone their skills alongside their peers. We currently have teams for football, cricket, basketball, netball, rounders, cross-country, athletics, table tennis and badminton, and we have links with local squash and rowing clubs.

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
With around 50 clubs and societies running, there’s something for everyone!

TRIPS AND ACTIVITIES
Having the opportunity to take part in trips and activities beyond the school is an important part of the Latymer experience.

Admission Details

Year 7 admission
The Latymer School is a voluntary aided co-educational selective grammar school in Edmonton. We actively encourage applications from children of all backgrounds in the postcodes specified. We are pleased to be able to offer 192 pupil places in Year 7. We understand that the prospect of completing an entrance examination may seem daunting to many students, and so children and parents/ carers may wish to prepare. To help with this, you can access GL Assessment test materials here. It is important to note that the Latymer School only uses GL Assessment’s verbal reasoning and mathematics tests.

Sixth Form Admission
As part of the application process, the school will contact the new candidate’s current school, in order to obtain information regarding the applicant’s predicted grades. This information will be used to decide whether it will be possible to make the candidate a conditional offer. The number of places available to study Mathematics and the Sciences is limited by capacity, and so the candidate will also be required to satisfy additional entry requirements in order to confirm their place on these courses.

In Year Admission
For those applicants who took the assessment tests at the secondary transfer stage (Year 6), the ranking list is maintained until 31st December. Therefore, if a Year 7 vacancy was to arise between the start of the academic year in September and 31st December, the next applicant on our initial waiting list of 50 would be offered the place.
