Features

Things to note

Sport
Sport plays a central role in the life of a King Edward VI student. All students have the opportunity to represent the school in a wide range of sports and they are challenged to work towards filling their sporting potential, whatever that may be.

Creative Arts
At King Edward’s we provide students with an atmosphere in which creativity will flourish.  A wealth of opportunities in which to explore and develop creative interests enables pupils to pursue music, drama and artistic expression beyond their academic studies. Beautiful, naturally-lit art studios, a state of the art theatre, and purpose-build music rooms provide the exceptional facilities, which underpin students’ pursuit of excellence in their own creativity.

Co-Curricular Activities
King Edward’s encourages all pupils to get involved in school life, beyond their academic studies.  It is an important part of being a member of the wider school community, a great way to make friends, develop new interests and hone existing skills.  As students settle into the school, the range of opportunities increases as they move through the school.  By the end of Sixth Form, young people leave us for higher education full of confidence and experience, excited and prepared to make the most of life’s opportunities.

Sixth Form Life
A Sixth Former’s life is a considerably different experience from what has come before. As senior members of the school community, they enjoy an increased level of individual freedom and independence, and the “business dress” code helps define that difference.

Scholarships

The Scholars’ Programme at KES
The Scholars’ programme at KES aims at catering for those students who exhibit scholarly characteristics, namely consistent academic excellence; strong academic potential, intellectual curiosity and scholarly flair, i.e. an ‘edge’ or enthusiasm for learning that will mark them out as different to their peers.  Scholarship is about more than hard work and attainment, with interest and aptitude at least as important in the mix of desirable qualities. The Scholarship programme is designed to support the enthusiasms and the high ability of the pupils involved, to challenge them to look beyond the syllabus, to forge links between their subjects and to consider how their school studies link into the wider world. KES scholars are expected to be role models and leaders of the academic community at school, and the role requires a degree of responsibility in terms of attending events and completing some assignments in order to help them to do this.
