Description

The King's School, Harpenden is a Independent Primary School for kids aged 4 to 16 (Gender - Mixed)

A very warm welcome to The King’s School, a unique environment in which children can thrive and grow both spiritually and academically. Here childhood is valued and treasured, and God is firmly at the centre of all that they do. This is a place where children can develop a strong sense of identity and destiny, secure in who they are and looking confidently to the future. The small class sizes ensure that every child is known and valued and that their individual needs can be met, stretching and supporting as appropriate. There are many opportunities for children to contribute to the life of the school, developing their gifts and abilities, growing in confidence and character.

Facilities

As a Secondary pupils, they recognise that The King’s School is a place where we can learn, alongside others, in a secure Christian environment. To enable such learning, they will endeavour to..Honour and uphold the Christian ethos of The King’s School. Be punctual for school (arrive before 8:50am) and for lessons. Wear our uniform correctly. Have the correct equipment and books for lessons. Remain silent in corridors and on staircases (except to greet staff and visitors). Wait outside the classroom until asked to go in by a staff member. Respect the learning environment, using equipment carefully and keeping classrooms and locker areas tidy and organised. Listen attentively when staff and others are speaking. Put care and effort into both class work and work at home, ensuring that homework is handed in on time. Show respect to staff and other pupils, being obedient when given an instruction by a staff member. Be positive about the achievements of others.

Things to note

Music within the school
In addition to the timetabled curriculum music lessons, the Music Department offers individual lessons on the clarinet, brass, drums, guitar, piano, recorder, saxophone and violin, as well as singing lessons. Throughout the school, pupils have the opportunity to join the Primary or Secondary choir or orchestral groups which practise once a week during lunch times. We also have our annual Primary & Secondary Instrumental Concert where pupils who have been having individual lessons get to show students, friends and family what they have been learning.

Sports
They enjoy Table Tennis at The King's School and often have success in the local and national events. Last year our U16 teams won both boys & girls at the District championships in October. This qualified them for the County finals in November at Herts Sports Village. The boys reached the semi-finals, coming 4th overall. The girls won bronze for a 3rd place finish in their round-robin competition. A brilliant performance for a small school amongst the 12 regions in Herts. We hosted the ISA regional competitions in January. In the U11s, Ryan won the Gold medal in the Boys' and Erinayo and Elina won Silver & Bronze respectively in the Girls' competition. In the U13s, Aaron & Abigail both won bronze for their 3rd place finishes. In the U16 competition, Tope was 2nd & Lisa 3rd in the Girls’, with Nathan 2nd and Jonny 3rd in the Boys’.

Extra Curricular

School Exchanges: The school has links with a Secondary school in Germany, and a small Secondary school in the village of L'Isle, in the French speaking region of Switzerland. Annual residential exchange visits, to and from these schools, aid our Secondary students in their German and French language skills.

Residential Trips: Year 9 are invited to take part in an outdoor & adventurous activities trip, usually in May, staying on the border of Wales. Years 5 & 6 enjoy a bi-annual week long activities trip, staying at the Woodrow Centre in Buckinghamshire. Year 10 Geography pupils usually take a two day trip to Hampshire, enjoying a mix of fieldwork, activities and fun at the beach in July. Periodically we organise a ski trip for pupils from Years 4-11 during the Spring Term.
