The Henrietta Barnett School

Description

The Henrietta Barnett School is leading State Secondary school in London. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Girls

The Henrietta Barnett School (HBS) is a non-denominational grammar school for girls aged 11-18. We became an Academy in April 2012. Founded in 1911 and situated in the peaceful surroundings of the Hampstead Garden Suburb, the school is a charming Lutyens-designed Grade II* Listed Building. Dame Henrietta Barnett strongly believed in the power of education to shape people’s lives and founded the School to provide educational opportunities of the highest quality for its students. She built the School on the principle that education should be open to girls from different backgrounds to study and learn together and from each other. This principle is alive and well at HBS.

Facilities

Year 7 - 9
At Key Stage 3, we want to enable girls to pursue a wide variety of academic and extra-curricular interests to the full. We want to foster a love of learning independently of exams and to encourage inquisitive, motivated and creative thinkers. We want to nurture resilience and robustness: students who are willing to take risks in the classroom and who are not afraid of failure. We are lucky to have girls from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and we want them to enjoy their life at school and feel part of a supportive community, valuing this diversity. We want the girls to become valued team players and also develop leadership skills

Years 10 - 11
Progress into Key Stage 4 is both a psychological one, entering the ‘GCSE years’, as well as a literal one: the girls’ form rooms move from Bigwood to the second floor of the Main Building. The transition is also marked by the donning of crisp white shirts instead of blue ones!

Sixth Form
The Sixth Form is a vibrant, friendly and happy community, where every student is valued and given individual attention, so that she is able to flourish and leave the school as a confident, accomplished, well-rounded individual, fully prepared for the challenges of Higher Education and work in the 21st Century. Most of our girls proceed to higher education; the school has an excellent record of success in university entrance including Oxford and Cambridge.
