The Belvedere Preparatory School is Independent Private School for Girls and Boys for age 3 to 11.
The Belvedere Preparatory School was originally founded in 1880 as the Junior Department of The Belvedere School, Liverpool. Originally housed at 17 Belvidere Road, we moved to our current premises at 23 Belvidere Road in 1939. It is widely recognised as one of the best Independent Schools in Liverpool. The School is housed in a beautiful Victorian mansion which is located in a historically rich area of Liverpool. With neighbouring Princes Park and nearby Sefton Park providing a leafy backdrop, it is an exceptional environment in which your child can begin their educational journey.
First School
At The Belvedere Preparatory School we take into account the skills, knowledge and experiences that our children bring with them to school. They recognise that our children have the potential to achieve high standards, often beyond age related expectations. Therefore, we aspire for all our children to become competent learners
Prep School
They believe in the concept of lifelong learning, and in the belief that we are laying the foundations for learning throughout life in terms of skills, strategies and attitudes. We maintain that learning should be a rewarding and an enjoyable experience for everyone. Through our teaching, we equip children with the skills and a broad range knowledge and understanding that is necessary to be able to make informed choices about the important things in their lives.
Play
Play is a very important part of a child’s social development and a key part of their day. The staff are always present outside at playtimes to help boys and girls enjoy a happy break from the classroom. The exciting climbing equipment is a great place to learn how to take small physical and calculated risks. Children can also choose practise their cricket, tennis, football and netball skills.
Learning Support
They make sure our boys and girls receive regular individual attention in their lessons. Within Belvedere, children are given additional support in small groups within the classroom setting and groups may be withdrawn for extra support. 1:1 help is also provided – whether showing exceptional aptitude or even the mildest learning difficulty in a particular subject, boys and girls are given additional support.
School Clubs (Y2-Y6)
The School provides a range of extra-curricular activities and clubs which change termly. This gives pupils the opportunity to return to an activity or change their preferences on a termly basis. After School Clubs operate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week, from 3.30pm – 4.30pm.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Entry to The Belvedere Preparatory School is by formal assessment. Offers of places are then based on a discussion with parents as to how the school can meet their child’s needs.
Registrations are now being taken for girls and boys to enter Nursery and Reception for September 2020 and 2021.
You may register your child for entry at any time during the academic school year. We have a large demand for our Nursery and priority places are allocated to those wishing to make a commitment to continuing their education in the Prep School. We accept pupils for direct entry into our Reception class in order of application.
The Headmistress is always available to meet with prospective parents and pupils to discuss these places, or any places which on occasion become available higher up the school.
If you are interested in applying for a place please contact Mrs Julie Hoey (Admissions Manager) on 0151 471 1137 or email: [email protected] to request a Prospectus, Registration of Interest Form, to find out about the availability of places and/or to organise a school tour.
Parents expressing an interest in the school are asked to complete and return our Registration of Interest Form. This may be completed at any time prior to entry.
Once we have received your Registration of Interest Form we will contact you to book a suitable time for you to tour Belvedere Prep. This tour may take place virtually in adherence to government guidance on coronavirus and educational settings. There is no formal assessment of your child at this stage.
There is the option to revisit the school. Sometimes parents bring back the prospective pupil for a visit before they complete the Application Form (for which there is a £50 Application Fee). The Application Form is not a guarantee of a place and we will advise you of the availability of places before you complete this form. However, this form does enable you to be placed on a waiting list (where one exists).
Once you have applied for a place we will ask your child to come for a school visit. This is prior to any formal offer of a place. For children in Year 1 and above this visit is usually for a full day and there is an element of formal assessment. For younger children (Nursery and Reception) this visit would typically be approximately one hour, spent in the classroom environment.
Based on the information we have gathered about your child (which would include his/her visit and the child’s previous school reports), we then discuss with you how we feel your child would be able to have his or her skills and talents developed at The Belvedere Preparatory School.
After this discussion and subject to available places, you will receive an Offer of a Place with a start date indicated.
