Stokesley School enjoys a strong reputation within the local community and beyond. The students are well known for achieving high academic outcomes: they outperform a range of national attainment figures at GCSE and A-Level. We also have excellent progression rates with many of our students following higher education courses and, ultimately, career paths in medicine, veterinary science and mechanical engineering, to name but a few. Like all schools, we have areas to improve, but the dedication of our professional staff means we are driving forward change at a rapid rate and are at a really exciting time in our development. Furthermore, academic achievement does not tell the full story of our school: it is equally important to us to develop our students as responsible and sensitive young adults, fostering within them core values of integrity, empathy, diligence, discipline, perseverance and – perhaps above all else – kindness. Our values at school are simple: we want our students to be ready, respectful and ambitious, and these are underpinned by the school’s motto of ‘being the best we can be’. We do not believe in zero tolerance as every child is different, but we do believe that all children can achieve high standards of conduct and performance regardless of their background or personal circumstances.
YEAR 7 – CURRICULUM
It is crucial that the young people develop the essential learning skills, resourcefulness and sense of self-worth that they will need in the ever-changing world of life and work ahead. Our curriculum therefore is one which continually evolves, combining a commitment to students’ personal development with the demands of academic rigour. Students study a broad range of subjects for as long as possible.
YEAR 8 – CURRICULUM
The curriculum recognises that a significant number of our students are high achievers and alongside the ambitions we hold for all our learners, keeps academic rigour at its core. We embrace the arts and are more ambitious than the national curriculum, for example ensuring all year 8 students study drama discretely and have access to it in years 9 to 11.
YEAR 9 – CURRICULUM
Towards the middle of year 9 students choose their GCSE options ready for year 10. They have four choices, although one of them is restricted to our extended core subjects of triple science, history, geography, languages and computing. Learning for GCSE options begins in the September of year 10.
YEAR 10 – CURRICULUM
In year 10 students begin their GCSE studies having chosen their options during year 9. We encourage as many of our students as possible to study the full range of subjects that makes up the Ebacc in order to give the broadest possible opportunities later in life. Ultimately though, our curriculum philosophy is built on choice so we do not insist students follow any particular route beyond the core and extended core.
YEAR 11 – CURRICULUM
An alternative pathway is available for those students who learn best through more practical and vocational elements. Our Bridge Course includes qualifications in a variety of Level 1 and 2 courses, including : Fire Service and the Community, Level 1/2 award in Event Operations, Certificate of Personal Effectiveness and work experience placements. Students have 6 hours of Bridge per week in year 10 and year 11. They will miss one PE lesson and one RE lesson a fortnight in year 10, and one PE lesson per week in year 11.
YEAR 12 – CURRICULUM
Further Maths students may choose to study the subject for just one year to AS level rather than continue for a further year to complete the full A level.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
They're so excited to announce the re-vamp of our extra-curricular offer, with over 40 clubs and activities for students to choose from over the course of a week! They have tried to provide a wide variety of activities across the school but are keen to match what we offer to what students want to do, so if there is something your child would like to get involved in that isn't currently offered
SEND
At Stokesley School, they remain committed to supporting all students to reach their potential in all aspects of school life and this includes those children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We are ambitious for our students, including those with SEND, and we endeavour to support them to access a curriculum which will ready them for the next stage of their learning journey, whatever that may be. Students may be supported, in a variety of ways, to access the same learning opportunities as their peers, with appropriate adaptations and differentiation to suit their needs. For some students, a more bespoke curriculum package may be more suitable, this will be created on a case by case basis to suit the needs of the individual student.
Selection Criteria: Selective
