Facilities

  • At St Matthew’s they deliver an enriching curriculum that not only delivers a broad and balanced curriculum in line with National expectations, but that provides the children with a rich and varied approach to learning. By immersing the children in a subject whether it is through trips; visitors; thematic links across the curriculum or a whole day immersive experience, they provide the children with an overarching and deep knowledge of the topics they study.
  • They have wonderful and spacious grounds, from pond area with decking for pond dipping, to the wild-flower meadow, to the wooded tree area, vegetable gardens and large field, there are so many areas to explore. Pupils at St Matthew’s receive dedicated Forest School sessions in four out of their six years at our school. They are hugely stimulated by spending time for these outdoor sessions and we believe that this helps build their confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem-solving skills, as well as improving their emotional well-being.

Features

Things to note

At St Matthew’s they can make provision for every kind of frequently occurring special educational need without an Education, Health and Care Plan, for instance dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language needs, autism, asperger’s syndrome, learning difficulties and behaviour difficulties. There are other kinds of special educational need which do not occur as frequently and with which the school is less familiar, but they can access training and advice so that these kinds of needs can be met. The school also currently (and has previously) meets the needs of pupils with an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) with the following kinds of special educational need: Speech and language and Communication Needs, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Need and Sensory and/or Physical Needs.  Decisions on the admission of pupils with an Education, Health and Care plan are made by the Local Authority.
