We recognise the unique qualities of each student and encourage social responsibility and respect for others.Founded in 1933, the school is now part of the Inspired Learning Group, a family of Independent schools and nurseries delivering a rich education, combining passion and innovation to develop and inspire children in a nurturing environment for a vibrant future. St. Francis' College provides day time weekday education for girls aged 3 - 18 and day, flexi and full boarding for girls aged 10+.
Nursery
They understand that no two children are the same. By caring and meeting each child’s individual needs we know that they can flourish and grow to their full potential. We work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure your child gets the best opportunity to develop by following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This enables us to create a fun and loving environment through different experiences that enhance each child’s learning and development. All children attend weekly classes led by specialist teachers in Speech and Drama, Music, French, Swimming, PE and optional Ballet.
Reception
In Reception we continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which provides the Early Learning Goals the children are working towards achieving. Children learn through a range of formal and informal teaching, child initiated and adult-led activities. The staff provide a positive and nurturing environment where children grow in confidence and independence. They are taught the importance of being motivated, persevering when faced with new challenges as well as taking risks. In addition Reception children also benefit from specialist teaching in Speech and Drama, PE, French, Music, swimming and optional Ballet.
Sixth Form
They anticipate that most students will take three A Levels, which is line with the updated expectations of university courses. Some of may choose to stretch themselves by taking an additional AS course with an external examination at the end of Year 12, while some may choose to take an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) during the summer between Years 12 and 13. It should be recognised that the new A Levels place a higher demand on students, and we monitor students carefully to ensure that they are not overloaded. It is expected that an additional AS will only usually be taken by those targeting the most competitive courses at university, such as Medicine, Vet Science or those available at Oxford and Cambridge. In addition, many enrichment opportunities will be available to develop a wider range of skills and support your university application and readiness for work.
Extra Curricular
At St Francis', all girls are encouraged to become involved in as many activities as they can reasonably manage to complement their studies. Activities take place in the lunch time, after school or during the weekend, and play an essential part in the creation of confident, healthy individuals, able to make the most of their leisure time. The creative and performing arts have a strong tradition at St Francis'. We offer tuition in many instruments with opportunities to play in the College orchestra, wind ensemble and other groups. We stage two major productions a year in our purpose-built theatre.Sport is encouraged at all levels of ability.
