Together we strive for the very best in everything we do; whether it be in our teaching, our learning or the many other activities and opportunities on offer. St Bernadette’s, is a rich learning community, underpinned by faith, where we are aspirational and driven to achieve the very best for ourselves and each other, so that they may serve others to the best of the abilities. They are driven to do so in order to become the person God created us to be.At St Bernadette’s all aspects of the school life are rooted in Gospel values. As a school family they selected Gospel values which reflect the school and our ethos the most. They all promote these values by our words and deeds, in the learning and in the daily life visible all around our school.

Early Years Foundation Stage
At St Bernadette’s they believe that all children deserve the very best start in life and they recognise that this happens when they feel safe, loved and happy. We celebrate the uniqueness of every individual and seek to provide them with stimulating learning opportunities whatever their prior knowledge and experiences are. The Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do and they aim to pass this on to the children. They hope that they will grow to love God, and neighbour and be able to marvel at the wonders of Creation. They aim to nurture in all our children a curiosity and deep respect for other cultures and religions as we recognise that we are all children of God. They believe that an emphasis on speaking and listening skills will promote self-confidence and develop thinking, reading and writing skills as well as help children to form positive social relationships and we strive to encourage children to develop these skills through their interaction with other children and with adults.

Curriculum
At St Bernadette’s the curriculum is designed to ensure that our children develop into confident, resilient and determined learners prepared for the next stages of their learning. When our pupils leave us we want them to do so with a love of God, a strong moral compass and the cultural capital they need to succeed. They want all of our pupils to believe in themselves and have the courage to ask questions and know that they can make a difference. At St Bernadette’s we have high standards of learning and behaviour: they value each and every member of the school family and as a result of that belief our pupils are empowered to challenge themselves, empowered to learn and aspirational for their futures. Embedded within our curriculum is the belief that each person is a unique creation of a loving God and has been bestowed with particular gifts to be developed and used for the service of others and as such we want service of others to be a central part of life in our school.

Things to note

Sensory and/or physical needs
Some children require special educational provision because they have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of the educational facilities generally provided. These difficulties can be age related and may fluctuate over time. Many children with vision impairment (VI), hearing impairment (HI) or a multi- sensory impairment (MSI) will require specialist support and/or equipment to access their learning, or habilitation support. Children with an MSI have a combination of vision and hearing difficulties. Some children with a physical disability (PD) require additional ongoing support and equipment to access all the opportunities available to their peers.
