Sidcot School

Description

Sidcot School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 3 to 18 (Gender - 3 to 18 )

At Sidcot they are justifiably proud of our students’ academic record. They are equally proud of their social skills, their emotional intelligence, their resilience and their determination to make a difference in the world. It’s no surprise that these personal qualities go together with academic excellence. It’s our experience that curiosity and the confidence to enquire fearlessly - to live adventurously, as our Quaker philosophy puts it - leads children to be better motivated and more at ease with themselves as thinkers and learners. They don’t cram children at Sidcot, because we don’t have to. This is a kind, purposeful place where they educate the whole person for a life of active, responsible citizenship.

Facilities

Sidcot Pre-School
Children can start attending our Pre-School when they turn three years old and are considered to be ‘dry’. We accept Local Authority Early Years funding up to a maximum of 15 hours per week until the term following a child’s fifth birthday. They expect children to start with a minimum of four sessions and recommend that this incorporates a whole day.During their time at Sidcot Pre-School, children will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. In practice, this involves play and activities designed to develop skills and talents in literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design.

Sidcot Junior School
If you’re in the process of choosing an independent Junior School for your child, you’ll be looking for one that cares about the same things as you do. We’d like to tell you something about what matters to us at Sidcot. It matters that children are treated as individuals. Experience has taught us that one size doesn’t fit all. Children learn at different speeds and in different ways. At Sidcot, we have the luxury of space and time to tailor the teaching to suit the learning style of each individual child. At Sidcot Independent Junior School, they use a variety of teaching styles to engage your child and develop a learning environment that suits everyone. We take the time to get to know them, to understand their strengths, their likes and dislikes, and their individual ways.

Features

Things to note

Sports
They have excellent sports facilities at Sidcot and we make good use of them. From their earliest years with them, all the pupils have regular sports sessions, starting with PE lessons and swimming sessions in Nursery and Reception. In Year 1 and 2 children have two PE lessons a week and a swimming session. Year 3 to 6 have two PE lessons, a games afternoon and a swimming session each week. They focus on the enjoyment of physical activity, not just the competitive element. Children need to experience the joy of winning and succeeding, but they make sure this is as much about achieving personal goals, not just being ‘the best’. It’s important that sport is fun and exciting for everyone – not just the sporty few.

Junior School Activities
At Sidcot they’re lucky in having an excellent rural location and top class facilities for sport, arts, crafts and environmental studies, as well as links with local community groups, charities and business. Activities run at lunchtime, after school, after tea and into the evening, as well as at weekends. With over 100 extra-curricular activities ranging from archery to trampolining, maths club to hill walking, they make sure the students have plenty of opportunities to try new things as well as developing existing interests. There’s plenty going on outside school too, with field trips, gallery and museum visits, international exchanges, music tours, lectures and sports fixtures, also available to students as they progress through the School.
