Riddlesworth Hall was designed by architect Thomas Leverton as a Georgian style three-storey house in 1792 where it was acquired by Silvanus Bevan III. It later became the seat of the Compton-Thornhill baronets, including Sir Thomas Thornhill, 1st Baronet (1837-1900) and Sir Anthony John Compton-Thornhill, 2nd Baronet (1868–1949). The second baronet had no heirs and the hall was converted for use as a school in 1946.Riddlesworth Hall School was established as a predominantly girls’ school but now caters to both boys and girls aged 3 to 13.

Facilities

PRE-PREP
The Pre Prep block is a colourful and vibrant department where every boy and girl matters. The walls in the bright and airy classrooms are covered with the pupils own work, of which they are all very proud. Each classroom has a full-time teacher and some a support teacher too, ensuring every pupil has one-to-one time to further their learning every day. Each day is busy and fun-filled with the pupils being taught a wide range of academic subjects, which include weekly drama, music and language lessons taught by subject specialist teachers. Staff:pupil ratios are kept deliberately low to ensure the highest possible quality of provision is offered to our pupils at such an important stage in their education.

PREP SCHOOL
The pupils leave the Pre Prep block at the end of Year 2 and move into the historic cobbled courtyard classrooms to continue their education journey at Riddlesworth Hall.During Years 3-5, we aim to build on the excellent progress pupils will have made in our Pre Prep Block by encouraging the children to engage actively in their learning and by developing their self-confidence, whether through academic curriculum or the many wider opportunities in the school.Teacher pupil relationships are vital to the learning of any child and the teaching structure within these important years recognises this. Pupils are taught the majority of their lessons by an experienced class teacher with an increasing number of subjects taught by specialists, for example Music, PE, RE, Mandarin, Humanities. They also begin encouraging the pupils to take responsibility for their progress, for example by inviting them to make decisions about the help they need to seek or to be aware of their strengths and areas they would like to develop further.

Features

Things to note

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Riddlesworth Hall runs a comprehensive and varied selection of extra-curricular activities – all planned with children in mind. For some pupils, their personal strength may lie outside of the academic curriculum and it is important that these skills are recognised to the greatest extent possible within the structure of the school. The clubs at Riddlesworth will provide an opportunity for the children to try new things, forge friendships outside of the classroom and develop existing skills and interests.

ART & DESIGN
Here, at Riddlesworth Hall, the fundamental belief is that every pupil has some level of creative ability and it is therefore our aim to foster this creativity in as wide a manner as possible whilst also instilling a lasting interest in and appreciation in the History of the subject.Pupils receive weekly art lessons throughout the School during which they are taught the skills and techniques of drawing and painting. The aim of the Art department is to instil an interest and love for the subject whether practical, historical or theoretical; teach students the methods and techniques involved in a wide range of creative processes; and provide students with the opportunities to develop their abilities using various media involved in the creation process.

FOREST SCHOOL
The Forest School is a unique way of building independence, self-esteem and positive attitudes towards learning in all our pupils. Here they are able to explore and experience the natural world for themselves. All pupils are encouraged to be curious about their surroundings here at Riddlesworth Hall. The superb setting, set within 35 acres of beautiful Norfolk countryside, provides an extensive area for children to enjoy the natural world within a safe and supportive environment, whilst allowing them the freedom to experience unfamiliar challenges and take controlled risks.
