Key Stage 3
The Key Stage 3 curriculum (Years 7, 8 and 9) will ensure that your child follows a broad and balanced programme combining the core subjects with the Arts, Humanities, Languages, Design Technology and Physical Education. The curriculum is designed to be balanced and rigorous, in order to maximise students’ knowledge, as well as their skills and personal development across a range of interesting subjects. We want them to explore and to experience a variety of subject areas to provide a strong foundation for the future.The curriculum offer will prepare Year 7, 8 and 9 students to be both well rounded and educated citizens. All written examinations will place a far higher emphasis on literacy and the quality of spelling, punctuation and grammar. We would encourage your child to read regularly for enjoyment and pleasure as well as for the specific purpose of education. Students will be better placed to achieve highly with a broader vocabulary and a deeper appreciation of various styles of writing.
Key Stage 4
In Years 10 and 11 students follow a reduced number of subjects and concentrate on them in preparation for the Public Examinations at the end of Year 11. Every child takes the compulsory core of examined subjects which includes English, mathematics, science and philosophy & ethics. Students then choose from a range of subjects and qualifications which complement both their interests and style of learning. Typically, students will study for 8 or 9 qualifications in total, although this does vary according to individual need.
Sixth Form
The school’s ethos of high expectations and individual care and support continues into Sixth Form. In addition to outstanding teaching and learning, the sixth formers enjoy a wide range of enrichment offers, trips and activities and are expected to carry out leadership roles in the school and local community. This is reinforced by a pastoral and wellbeing programme, developing further the spiritual, moral, social and cultural education of the young people in our care. We aim to ensure that the students who leave our Sixth Form will have developed into well motivated, articulate and courteous young adults, fully prepared for university or working life. Our students will be thoroughly equipped to meet the many challenges ahead with confidence and self-assurance.
SEN
Park High strive to help students progress and develop. All students can access appropriate support according to their needs and in consultation with our experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator. All Harrow schools will have a consistent approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities. The SEN leaders from Harrow schools meet on a regular basis to share best practice, to ensure that they make the best possible progress in school.
