Early Years Curriculum
Children are assessed for age-related expectations and we track children to identify how they are progressing towards the Development Matters targets, which most children should achieve by the end of Reception. However, every child is unique and develops at different paces. In this new framework changes have been made to the areas of learning. The new areas of learning are listed below. These areas are covered in Nursery and Reception phases. There are two main aspects called Prime Areas of Learning (the most important building blocks of learning) and Specific Areas of Learning (focused on specific subject areas).
Key Stages 1 & 2
Krishna Avanti Primary School offers a unique curriculum, which is developing at pace. We currently teach all the subjects in the National Curriculum i.e: English, Maths, Science, Computing, Design & Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Citizenship plus Personal, Social Health Education (PSHE). They also have a number of visiting specialists who support learning and the development of innovative practice in ICT, Expressive Arts, Modern Foreign Languages, PE and Yoga. They encourage the children to experience learning outside of the classroom setting and often extend their learning opportunities by taking the children out on extra-curricular visits to different places of interest, in order to reinforce their learning and encourage further engagement in particular topics, themes or subject knowledge.
Weekly Yoga & Wellbeing
Avanti’s unique ethos places a key emphasis on each individual’s wellbeing. We are always looking for ways to support the community’s wellbeing. Students have regular yoga and mindfulness sessions, teachers regular wisdom sessions and for parents we organise an event called ‘Avanti Nights.’
Outdoor Learning
Learning outdoors is a large part of early years education at Avanti! Students at all ages are exposed to a range of real-world experiences inside and outside the classroom. Learning is a quest to discover each student’s unique gifts and potential and lay the foundation for their lifelong journey of learning.
