Orwell Park School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 2 to 14 (Gender - 2 to 14 )
Founded in 1868, Orwell Park School is a day and boarding preparatory school for boys and girls aged between 2½ and 13 years in the village of Nacton on the edge of Ipswich in the English county of Suffolk. They want the pupils to develop a love of learning that they will carry with them throughout their lives and a broad and challenging academic curriculum is taught by high quality specialist staff, who are passionate about their subject. Outside the classroom, all pupils engage in a variety of extra-curricular activities, including the main sports, drama, art and music and from the Early Years onwards all are encouraged to gain confidence in public speaking.
Pre Prep
Every new pupil that enrols with us at Nursery is invited in to have one or sometimes two taster days to welcome them to Orwell Park, make them feel safe with their teachers and settle them into this exciting new environment. This is an important step to ensure your child feels safe and secure on a good footing moving forward with their school life. On top of the taster day, we also offer staggered time commitments, which means that your child can start by doing hour sessions, half days or go straight into full days if they settle very quickly. At Orwell Park, pastoral care is given top priority, ensuring that every child is listened to, cared for, valued and encouraged. All members of staff at Orwell Park, whether academic or support staff, have a part to play in providing for the needs of their young charges. In Pre-Prep, class teachers take special responsibility for the welfare as well as academic progress of the pupils in their care.
Prep
Orwell Park offers academic challenge to all children and learning support for those who need it. In the classroom, a traditional curriculum (including Latin fromYear 6 onwards) is taught, using the most modern methods. The Prep School employs motivated teachers with a passion for their subject, who will encourage academic self-reliance, helping all children in time to take responsibility for their own learning and personal organisation. The curriculum offers breadth as well as academic rigour and all pupils in Years 3-8 have timetabled Art, Design and Technology and Drama. Children live in a digital world and at Orwell Park they are supported in their learning by Apple technology throughout the school; including two IT rooms, a Music Technology room, IT hubs in Art and Design and Technology, as well as access to mobile devices.
Home From Home
The boarding school proudly welcomes students from the Suffolk, Greater London areas and abroad for full, weekly, and flexi boarding. They offer pupils facilities and activities which enhance social skills, cultural awareness, and respect for others. In an environment that celebrates the differences between pupils, the key life skills of resilience, self-motivation, and responsibility are absorbed and developed.
Pastoral Care
All members of staff at Orwell Park, whether academic or support staff’ have a part to play in providing for the needs of their young charges. In Pre-Prep and Middle School (Nursery to Year 5), class teachers take special responsibility for the welfare as well as academic progress of the pupils in their care. In Years 6 to 8, pupils are given a Tutor who will not only maintain an overview of academic progress over the next three years in Senior School, but also take responsibility for pupil’s pastoral needs. In tutorial groups, which are kept deliberately small, Tutors spend valuable time each week with the pupils in their care.

Music Scholarship
Year 6: Music and Drama Scholarship Day (for Year 7, 2023) - Wednesday 9th November 2022
This scholarship is available to pupils who will make a significant contribution to the quality of music at the school. Applicants will be asked to attend an audition and an interview with the Director of Music, and will be asked to present a prepared piece on each of their instruments. As a guide to parents and instrument teachers we would normally expect candidates to have achieved around Grade IV in their first instrument. However, we will assess potential as well as ability. Applicants should demonstrate clear enthusiasm for music, and an intention to make excellent progress in their musical studies.
Drama Scholarship
Year 6: Music and Drama Scholarship Day (for Year 7, 2023) - Wednesday 9th November 2022
There is no one type of Drama Scholar and the more diverse the range the better. What is most important is a want to succeed and improve, a desire to be involved and learn new skills and an enthusiasm for all things theatrical. Drama scholars will be expected to engage fully in the co-curricular theatre programme and be excellent ambassadors for the Drama Department. They should show qualities of enthusiasm and motivation for drama.
All Rounder Scholarship
These are awarded to pupils who do well academically and who have the potential to contribute to one or more other areas of school life (eg sport or music). We do not hold a separate assessment for this scholarship. Most scholarship awards are between 10% and 25% of fees. For non-academic awards, pupils must meet the school’s academic entrance requirements.
