Lancaster Steiner School

Lune Rd, Lancaster LA1 5QU, United Kingdom
3-11 Years

Description

Lancaster Steiner School is Independent Primary school in Lancashire for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Lancaster Steiner School offers a gentle and natural alternative to mainstream education. Instead of testing and targets, they offer a nurturing environment with small classes where each child receives individual care and attention. They teach children the skills they need in English and Maths, but they also give them a love of knowledge and room for their imaginations to grow. They cater for children up to age 11, with the parent and toddler playgroups (0-4 yrs), Transition Class (5-6 yrs) and Lower School (6-11 yrs). They are the only Steiner school in the North West of England and families travel to them from across the region to give their children the most special gift that we can offer – a lifelong love of learning.

Facilities

Toddler Playgroups
In the playgroups young children learn essential social skills, such as relating to one another and how to participate in a group. The mood of the morning is intended to be informal, providing a warm, safe and nurturing child-centered space for children and their parents to relax and play together. Children learn through imitation at ring time, to listen, and to watch. The clear rhythm of the sessions provide the young child with a sense of reassurance and continuity. They provide simple toys that are hand crafted from natural materials, feed the senses and nurture the imagination. They celebrate the seasons and festivals of the year through our explorations in the garden, songs, rhymes and verses. The group runs every week during term time

Transition class
As Transition Class is often the first step away from home, they provide a homely atmosphere where young children can flourish; filled with a healthy balance of engaging activities and self-directed play, all specially designed to prepare the ground as fully as possible for the start of formal learning. The curriculum is carefully structured to meet the developmental needs of the child. Following many European educational models, Steiner schools do not introduce the teaching of formal concepts until a child is six.

Lower School
They believe a child’s educational progress is a developmental journey. This journey needs a child-centred approach in which the curriculum and the style of learning reflects the natural stage of the growing child. The Lower School curriculum is carefully planned to meet the developmental needs of the pupils. It is broad and balanced with attention paid to social and emotional development of the pupils alongside their academic achievement. They place a lot of emphasis on creativity with drawing, painting, music, movement, poetry, modelling and drama used in all subjects; the arts curriculum forms a large part of our subject lessons.

Features

Things to note

Garden Explorers
Garden Explorers is the outdoor group. Each session takes place in our beautiful school garden come rain or shine for natural play and outdoor fun, encouraging development in the seven areas of the national curriculum EYFS framework, whilst also encouraging a love and respect for nature.Evey week they share the joy of a campfire on which we cook popcorn to share. Each child is offered the chance to join in with specially prepared seasonal crafts followed by animated songs and stories also matching the season. There is also plenty of time for your tots to explore the outdoor space whilst the adults can socialise and meet other families.

Activities
Children are involved in learning through activities such as baking, sewing, weaving, modelling, woodwork, fairy tales, games, dance and movement, and singing. Watercolour painting, modelling, hand-crafts and baking awaken creativity, while the imagery of fairy tales, poetry, plays and songs encourages the child’s language skills and feelings. Dexterity and fine motor skills are supported through finger-knitting, sewing and finger games, while gross motor skills are developed through daily outdoor play and circle time activities.
