Description

King Edward VI High School for Girls is an independent secondary school in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England for ages 11-18.

Founded in 1883 on the New Street site, King Edward VI High School for Girls encouraged students to go from elementary school through grammar school and high school to university.

Facilities

  • The school stages at least two joint productions with the boys of King Edward's School every year, the Junior Production in the Autumn Term and the Senior Production in January, with auditions and rehearsals beginning in September.
  • There is a vast array of orchestras, choirs and ensembles, with weekly rehearsals for regular concerts in the Ruddock Hall and Symphony Hall.
  • With world-class coaching and outstanding facilities, sport is hugely important at KEHS and in January 2020, School Sports Magazine named among the top 12 UK Schools for Sport for the first time.
  • Dance is hugely popular at KEHS, with many girls taking part in dance rehearsals at lunchtime and after school. The Junior and Senior Dance Societies prepare throughout the Autumn and Spring terms for the Dance Production in March.

Features

Things to note

  • Any medicine which your child may need to take during the school day must be in the original packaging. If it has been directly prescribed by a doctor, please ensure the packaging has clear instructions from the pharmacist on it as dosage may sometimes vary from the “over the counter” manufacturer’s instructions.
  • They publish the latest menus on this page of the school website; menus include both hot and cold food options, as well as a 'collect and go' packed lunch option.
  • In a prolonged spell of bad weather, the Schools will adopt a ‘winter’ timetable, shortening the school day to allow early departure in the afternoon. We shall aim to make a decision about the winter timetable by 07.00 on the day and will communicate this information through our website.
  • Girls at KEHS benefit from an astounding array of trips and visits.Trips give pupils unique opportunities to develop their resourcefulness and initiative, and to spend time together in a more relaxed environment. They enhance different subjects within the curriculum. Each trip is different. Some are directly related to the curriculum; some are designed to boost social awareness or enhance physical skills, self-reliance and team-working. Others extend girls’ knowledge of the world.
  • The Community Service programme at KEHS is extensive, involving large numbers of girls and staff in fundraising for a multitude of good causes, and in practical activities in the wider community – and having lots of fun in the process!
