Haberdashers' Adams is leading State Secondary school in Newport. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Boys
They welcome boys aged 11-18 as day boys or boarders, and girls aged 16-18 as day girls in our Sixth Form. There is no charge for education and boarders pay only for the provision associated with boarding. Over 1,000 pupils attend the school, including 360 in our thriving co-educational Sixth Form (90 of them girls). Around 100 of the pupils are boarders; they are extremely proud of our boarding facilities and boarding is an integral part of school life and contributes much to the ethos of our school.
Curriculum
To ensure a full, all-round curriculum for our pupils we offer a clear framework up to GCSE which includes compulsory sciences, foreign language, humanities (including religious studies) and a performance subject (art, drama, music or physical education). Our Sixth Form curriculum builds on this “breadth is strength” approach so all of our pupils study three A-levels and an AS-level in a complementary subject, as well as completing the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
Sixth Form Life
You will have a distinct Sixth Form uniform and a dedicated Sixth Form centre with a lecture theatre, seminar rooms and a bistro. You will benefit from close pastoral guidance in tutorial groups and enjoy the independence and flexibility of life in your Sixth Form Centre. You will form close friendships, develop excellent working relationships with your teachers and fully involve yourself in many aspects of school life. This will generate enjoyment, fun and a sense of belonging that will make you proud of your school.
Drama Club
The Drama Club welcomes members from across the school from Year 7 to the Upper Sixth. This age spread helps to create a unique environment where pupils can work together and develop their skills. In 2018 the Drama Club put on a production of Robert Bolt's classic comedy tale The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew.
Music
The dedicated music centre provides a state of the art environment for pupils to develop an interest and a love for music. There are a wide variety of choirs, groups and ensembles for pupils of all ages to get involved in with rehearsals at lunchtime and after school. Regular evening and lunchtime concerts mean pupils who wish to perform have plenty of opportunities to do so.
Sport
House competitions take place in everything from modern pentathlon to gymnastics and tennis to basketball. Lunchtime and after-school training sessions help the keen sportsmen and women to hone their skills for the all-important inter-school fixtures that take place regularly after-school and on Saturday mornings.
