KINDERGARTEN ( 3-4 )
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to children in Kindergarten and Reception Class. At Green Meadow Independent School all children join the Reception classes at the beginning of the school year. Children can join the Kindergarten the term after their 3rd birthday and they have three intakes, September, January and April. The EYFS is a very important part of your child’s education and development, and during these years most basic skills and attitudes to learning and socialising are established. The Kindergarten class is similar to our Pre-School 2 room within the attached nursery, First Steps, however children within our Kindergarten class will have the additional benefits of focussed teaching during the morning and afternoon concentrating on mathematics, English, linking letters and sounds, phonics, reading and writing. All children within the Kindergarten class will wear the Green Meadow uniform and adhere to Green Meadow School’s terms and conditions.
RECEPTION ( 4-5 )
The children in our Reception and Kindergarten classrooms love the bright, warm, welcoming atmosphere. The classroom is laid out into different areas which echo the seven areas of learning identified in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life. We believe that all children should experience the same opportunities and that they have an entitlement to a broad education that equips them with skills for life. We believe that praise is important and that every child should feel valued. At Green Meadow Independent School we believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life. High quality early learning provides the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they begin to grow up. We strive to offer support that enables them to fulfiltheir potential.
KEY STAGE 1 – ( PREP 1, PREP 2 )
In Key stage 1 the curriculum shifts towards a subject-based, more structured time-table. We continue to develop the phonic awareness and reading skills that have been introduced in Reception and build on the abilities of each individual child. Reading books are sent home each evening for the children to share with parents and weekly spellings are introduced. Subjects such as History and Geography are introduced through a range of topics such as Toys, Houses and Homes, The Victorians and the School Environment. The aim is to instil a love of learning and to encourage creative thinking from a young age. Educational visits play a part in this and really help to bring learning to life for young children.
KEY STAGE 2 – ( PREP 3, PREP 4, PREP 5, PREP 6 )
In Key Stage 2 the children are encouraged to become more independent and self-sufficient. They work more independently with class teacher support and intervention at appropriate times in the lessons. The core subjects of English, Maths, and Science are taught at differing levels which encourages growth and challenges the individual. It is the decision of the class teacher as to the level a pupil works at and their role to support the individual pupils in these subjects according to the needs of the particular year group.
KEY STAGE 3 ( PREP 7, PREP 8, PREP 9 )
The children within Key Stage 3 will have access to our balanced curriculum which leads to a good education. With our dedicated teachers ensuring pupils feel happy and secure in their learning.Within Key Stage 3 children will cover the following subjects: English, including English Literature and English Language, Mathematics, Science- as a whole or as three separate sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Art, Drama and Music, History, Geography and Religious Education, Spanish, Design Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Physical Education, Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education [PSHCE]

Nature Sculptures ( Key Stage 1 )

They worked to identify natural objects and used plasticine to create their own models of their chosen natural object. They used different tools and techniques to manipulate their plasticine and used their fine motor skills to help add detail by scraping, pulling, scratching and etching. We had hedgehogs, spiders, rabbits and even squirrels.
Recycle Monsters ( Kindergarten & Reception )
Kindergarten and Reception children selected some recyclable items to create their very own recycling monster. They chose what colours they wanted to use and was able to use scissors and glue to decorate their monsters and bring them to life.
